Unfiltered, unheated low-tech 2.5 shrimp bowl
I finally got everything in to set up my long awaited shrimp bowl. The main inspiration came from many of the cool bowls I have seen that have lots of flora stuffed in and just pop visually. I have always wanted dwarf shrimp as well, so this was something to satisfy both.
Initially I was going to go with Flourite, as I use that in my main tank and have had good success. I do find it hard to plant in, however, so I opted for ADA Aquasoil Amazonia Powder Type to see what all the fuss is about. Took about 2 weeks with the storm to get here, and in the meantime I set up my hardscape outside the bowl quite a few different ways to find the one I liked best.
Details are as follows:
Substrate: ADA Aquasoil Amazonia Powder Type
Substrate additives: Potash, dolomite, red clay powder
Lighting: TorchStar 8 W 5000 K LED bulb in a Target desk lamp
CO2: Dose daily w/ Excel
Fertilizers: Not sure yet, probably none
Anubias nana Petite
Fauna: (To be added in 2-3 weeks) Painted fire red shrimp
Overall I am very pleased with how it came out, but time will tell if things grow in as I want them to. Let me know what you guys think and I'll keep you updated on its probably slow progress.
