Red face First dirt tank... 28l - 6g

So, I'm giving dirt a try.
The tank is a new 6 gallon (28l), I bought it to suit the rocks I picked up.
Some earthmoving equipment ripped this out of the bedrock at the little stream across the road. The smaller piece is actually a wedge that fits perfectly in another large piece, so it makes a really nice tunnel, but I'd have to do a cube.

There is a layer of pool filter sand, then building sand mixed with washed soil from my garden. Topped with a purple sand (I know, but the light in the LFS is very turquoise so everything's colour looks a bit off).

Ignore the little filter, it is just there to clear the water a little.

The other reason for the tank, is it is my first try at growing glosso.
I only got like 10 plantlets or so.
The tank is small so I'll probably hook up the ladder diffuser.

Background is just on to calm down the cycle fishy. He is a feisty boy, but really enjoys playing in the thin leaved stuff in the back left.
Still very early days, just trying to track how the glosso does, quite a bit of it got buried accidentally with the air pump filter.

The plant in the front will get too big for the tank, it is the submerged form of a plant I found next to a dam. As long as it stays underwater it makes these val type leaves, and propagates with runners. This is one of the runners, about 2 months old. If you leave it exposed to air to grows a different leaf type, which grows really fast, like 2 inches in one day. The tip of the leaves just breaches my 25 gal tank's water line. I'll post pics later.

Absence of CO2 and excess light provided for an interesting algae breakout.
Luckily it came on very fast, so it was easy to notice and respond.

I'm using the second hole on the ladder, so technically I'm dosing CO2 on the higher end of the spectrum, but this was a compromise as I have more surface turbulence after swapping the silly little cartridge in the hob for some floss.
The spiral CFL bulb was changed out to an old 11W unit and the inside of the canopy painted white with plastic paint. Sure plants pearl a little less now, and grow a little slower, but just look at the big pink leaves growing on my sword now.
There seems to be no new algae and I can see the snails are doing a good job of clearing the old dead algae. Hope the glosso does not start stretching for light

Stuff in the back grew in to the extent that I had to top it today.
The little rhizome in front of the sword is growing new leaves after dropping all its own.
Glosso is doing ok and staying in the sand quite nicely.
