That's very impressive! I can tell lots of good thought went into this. What are your thoughts on supplementing carbon? It might help you get some really lush grown and keep the algae in check.

I don't really know. The wife is helping with the tank and we would like it to be as low tech as possible with minimum water changes as we both have a very busy schedule, maybe very slight excel dosing and 1/3 ei ferts?? Still doing tons of reading. What are your thoughts??

Honestly, I don't know a lot about EI dosing, except that a lot of the pros use it. It may be worth looking in to. My guess would be that between the aquasoil and root tabs you probably have enough nutrients in the tank that you could just dose micros and be fine. Something like Seachem Flourish maybe? Even that may not be necessary for a while. From my reading though, I do think that based on your lights and substrate adding carbon would be a good idea. Excel works pretty well and is super cheap for a tank that size. I noticed immediate results when I started adding it to my tank.

So yeah, my thoughts are dose Excel and see how things go, maybe wait on adding more ferts, and try doing ~1/3 weekly water changes as a matter of good maintenance.

Everything flows.
