Low Tech South American 55 Build

This is my third planted tank but largest. I don't have much free time to spend on it either. I wanted something attractive and relatively low maintenance. It is not a biotope tank.

Equipment

Standard 55
108 watt 6500k T5HO lighting
Marineland Emperor HOB Filter

Dosing

Cap of Flourish Excel or API CO2 Booster 1x day
1 ml PPS-Pro dosage of macros and micros 1x daily

Livestock

7 Pristella Tetras
3 Black Mollies (the offspring of another trio of mollies, removed, these are likely to be rehomed)
8 Angelfish (originally 9)
6 Sterbai Cory
4 Otocinclus (originally 5)

June 19

July 23

August 1

September 5

September 13

October 3

A lot of growth started happening after fertilizers. The angelfish also started off as ~nickel size. Some of them are almost 4" now after a few months. Amazing how fast they grow. Unfortunately, they are starting to split fins and lose scales in their fights. I think it's time to break them up but I have no idea what sex any of them are. I don't have the free time to watch them much to see how they interact. I mostly see them begging for food.
We're also considering adding some adult-sized neons or cardinals for some color.

Looks great! Do you think the angelfish would eat the neons or cardinals? I'm contemplating something similar.

If they can fit them in their mouth and catch them, yes. My angels try to eat snails on a daily basis so far and were interested in ghost shrimp.

Added 12 neons, none eaten but one died mysteriously overnight. The other 11 are doing well over two weeks later. Big trim too.
