My first PT: 20 gallon long
I took a dip in Ik Kil this summer and was inspired to bring that home with me. I had always admired James Findley's work too ... So I took my old turtle tank and got to work with a ton of research. I ran across a fish store closing here in San Antonio that was selling black aquarium substrate by the lbs super cheap plus rocks for a grand total of $19. Here's my setup:
soon to add TX-select driftwood (mountain cedar from my backyard)
30lbs eco complete?
base layer of osmocote plus
Micranthemum monte carlo
One mystery plant that came with the cuba pictured in closeup.
Soon to be Fauna:
I've also come up with what may be a novel setup to a very flexible CO2 delivery system. I have done some tests and it seems to work. I bought a new 2gallon pump sprayer. It has a max psi of 45. I bought a super cheap low psi air tank regulator from harbor freight plus the correct barb fittings for the pump hose inlet and aquarium hose outlet. Now, I can either use this for a yeast setup, carefully as a dry ice setup (pump has automatic pressure release if psi goes over 45psi) or in a pinch I can pump my own breath into it to at least elevate the co2 concentration beyond normal air. Fully pressurized, it can last up to 3 days without needing to be pumped at 1bps. Anyone else heard of people trying a similar rig?
