I'm 12 weeks into the progression so I'll post some pictures when I find out what folders the kids dragged them into.
Some of my poor fish have tolerated 5 to 7 years of my GREAT ideas. A 6 (maybe 7) year old neon tetra that needs a walking cane, 2 - 4 year old Congo tetras, a 4 year old black neon, 5 bloodfin tetras, a clown panaque, a pair of kribensis, and some kribensis offspring that will need to be removed soon. 5 nerite snails. Water sprite, some interesting stem plant collected from a local pond (maybe Bacopa species), micro swords, green/red lotus lily, Myrio. Spicatum (??), Rotala Wallichi, java fern, java moss, Crypto. Lutea, Crypto Wendti, Anubius nana, gold Lloydiella, and I believe some form of Nesea.

I started adding in week 2 trying to beat algae at it's game.

Bump: oops, I forgot about my dormant Ulvaceous

added some rotala purchased from Petco. It wasn't in very good condition.
Was only dosing iron at this point. The macros kept bringing on the algae too strong.

Started employing a heavier fert and CO2 dosing regimen. Dosing 7 mL of excel everyday to keep algae growth at bay though still present. Tried heavier doses of excel but the C. Wendti didn't respond well.

Mid August, still dialing in the ferts at this point. Planning on adding on my birthday weekend of the 21st, then I'll be at maintenance and trimming only stage.

Should be final iteration for plant additions. Did some nice trading locally and picked up 4 new species. Interesting observation that the microswords spread the fastest with the flow of the current hence the high population to the right side of the tank.

Thanks Daisy. It's so much fun trying to keep everything balanced but hanging on the fringe of excess to get the best growth without algae getting a foothold. My hardest lesson learned was almost gassing all my fish monkeying around with a new CO2 regulator. Sadly an old colony of rainbows made that sacrifice but it was another in a long list of humbling mistakes I've endured.

I'm finding that when I dose my macros recipe (KNO3, KH2PO4, and K2SO4) that there seems to be an algae explosion. Wondering if I should eliminate the nitrate and phosphate. I'm thinking the fish/feeding phenomenon is fullfilling this need. Any one only dosing iron and Plantex CSM+B? Any feelings on only dosing K2SO4?

Shot of the tank after maintenance yesterday. Took 4 to 5 inches of the tops of tall growth.

Crazy how you can trim off a lot of stem yet everything still looks lush.

How's the neon tetra with the walking cane? Time to upgrade to a scooter yet? I'm guessing it survived the gassing that the rainbow fish didn't tolerate?

Yeah he/she is tough. He's enjoying schooling with the bloogfin tetras. The new neon rainbows are amazing too.
