10g!!!!!!

Heylo! this is my 10g tank. It's been running since sometime in May i was just too lazy to make a journal. but seeing that its summer and i have some time on my hands i finally decided to make one.

History:
This tank wasn't supposed to be used. I have a 20g and i felt bad for throwing away plants when i trimmed it so i made this as a sort of plant nursery. eventually i decided to change my 20l and i used this tank as a holding tank until the 20 was re-cycled. Once the tank was empty i had an epiphany of a 10g tank and i once again set out to make this a functional tank. It was my first time using hardscape therefore it took me a while to figure what i wanted. I bought some zebra rock and plants from someone in houston and it was time.

teh specz!
10g aga tank
100w heater
walmart hood w/ 2x26w cf bulbs
10g HOB filter
ADA AS

the funny thing about this tank is that i've never once had algae. I don't know what it is but it's perfect basically. The plants grow at a steady pace, no signs of deficiency or anything. no co2 just plants, shrimp, light and soil. I'm not one to complain though!

I do have a question though, the tank does seem to have a whitish tint to the water. It looks like a bacteria bloom, but it's been going on for a while, even with weekly water changes. could it be lack of flow? the only thing in here that makes flow is the filter, but you can clearly see in person that parts of the tank are very still. I would really like to get rid of it.

Hehe I thought it looked great before the redo. But then again I am a huge fan of tanks that have green growing plants in them.
The rescape looks fantastic.

My planted tank. 55 gallon fluorite substrate over soil, 64 watts of light, excel twice a week. Weekly water changes. Angelfish pair, guppies, BN plecos and otos. Redone 11/13/2012
One non planted tanks. 75 gallon.

The original way you had it looks more jungle like. The new way looks like you out some thought into it and it looks better. I like the way it looked before the trim.

the grow tank is the way to do it. so many people get excited about their hardscape (me) and their growth sucks. i say learn to grow, and then do a layout with what you can.. grow.

You have some great plants there. I believe the reason you never had algae is because you have so many plants in there. They use up all the nutrients and there is none left for the algae. You probably have just the right amount of light as well.

Your redo looks nice!

Just keeping on keeping on....
