30 Gallon Long Startup

Purchased a 30L for my office on craigslist for 100 dollars, didn't care much for the oak trim and the seals were virtually non existant on this 12 year old so I decided I would start a journal and get a little DIY in with this one

Stand with the door taken off already

The tank, after I resealed it

Removing the old seals was a breeze since they were barely even visible
Used painters tape to make sure my seals were as clean as possible

The new seals! So clean!

Taping the glass so I could paint the trim

And heres a picture of my other tank in the office, a 220 cichlid tank

Tank & stand painted

Finished product!

2 mockscapes

Still debating on substrate but I should be setting her up next weekend!
Going to also make a ADA style light hanging bar

Also started soaking my DW for my 220 rescape, get excited people, its going to be good!

Oh man! I didn't know I could paint my ugly oak trim. I love it. I am still amazed at that manazita! I would love to work at your office with all those fish. How do you get any work done? Nice looking diy, by the way.

I was hesitant to paint the trim at first but leaving it oak would have been such an eye sore, it was alot easier than I thought, did get a little bit of paint on the glass but it was nothing a razorblade couldnt handle!

And work? Whats that? AHAHAH having the tanks kept me sane esp with the amount of work I'm doing, I go through 4-5 projects a day..

what are the dimensions on that? the only 30 Longs I know of are 33L at 48x12x12.

I'm totally loving the white trim, I should do that on my tanks really. So many options with paint too, a metallic blue might be pretty cool...

Those dimensions are a lot better that the 30 longs that they make now that are long and skinny. That manzanita is sweet. I envy your big tank That sure is a lot of wood! It's gonna be sweet

36x12x16 is a regular 30 gallon then, cool stuff.

It looks really good against the white wall.

Ninja quoted during post edit lol!

Thanks CL, the big tank I'm on the fence about keeping the cichlids, which are very entertaining to watch, or ditch them and plant :/

nope, 29 gallon and 36" 30 gallons are a seperate size, 30 'longs' are the 33 gallon tanks.

It's really annoying looking for 30 gallon tanks on CL, everyone calls 29 gallons '30' gallons when they're not the same thing.

I like how the tank trim and stand are painted white its looks really good
What kind of paint did you use and do you think it would peel off on the plastic trim??

Sanded then used their primer then sanded again & painted with the gloss white

Dont think it will flake,I sanded it down after I painted it with 200grit sandpaper, its quite smooth and if it does flake I'll try something else

I like the background clear with the white. Of course, it all depends on the type of fish you put in there if you should paint it or not. The tank looks huge with that driftwood. I like the first mockup the best. But that's just me.
