Cookie Jar

So..I decided I needed to start a new project and lo and behold I end up with a 2(?)gallon cookie jar. I'm going to try my hand a the dry start method for this.

Here are the specs:

Substrate:
Thin layer of red clay, capped with topsoil, capped with blasting sand
Ferts/co2:
none (for now)
Light:
Sunlight for DSM. Will probably switch to a cfl when submerged.
Filter:
Don't know--maybe a tiny sponge filter, or mini sunsun canister, OR no filter at all?
Heater:
none (for now)
Flora:
Monte carlo, anubias nana and petite, fissidens, pearlweed, crypt lutea
Fauna:
I kinda want a m/f pair of scarlet badis, but I'm not sure if this is big enough

The plants were just added yesterday.

Anchor Hocking cookie jar from walmart/target? If i could see the rim or lid I could confirm-they have a 1g and 2g cookie jar amazon listed dimensions of the (btw amazon's price for it is a rip off)
2g: 9.6 x 9.6 x 14.4 inches
1g: 7.6 x 7.6 x 10 inches

Would not recommend a pair or single badis in that small of a tank, get a 5g or larger.

Filtration I use in my cookie jar:
jardin mini cylinder sponge filter:
http://www.amazon.com/Jardin-Aquarium-Cylinder-Sponge-Filter/dp/B005LMQCW2/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1434053235&sr=1-1&keywords=jardin+mini+cylindertetra whisper air pump(smallest one)
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000GZ1EX6/ref=twister_B00CTE98UI?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1+ some cheap $4 air line tubing

Due to photobuckets new bs cost for use of images on forums I have deleted all photobucket accounts. I apologize if you enjoyed or found my photos helpful.

Thank you andrewss!

Yes, it's the Anchor jar. I measured and confirmed it's the 2 gal version.

I will probably end up with shrimp then or a betta (even though I already have too many lol)

BTW I love your jar AquaAurora.

Awesome, love the 2g.
Thank you ^^ I got lucky and my betta in this jar is very mellow so I keep a few cherry shrimp with him, 4-6 adults and ??# shrimplets/juvies-impossible to find the non full grown ones with the thick fissendens.
Btw there's no such thing as "too many" bettas ^.~ I'm at 6 atm but want so many more!

Update time!

Things are going well. I decided to go with a sunsun 602B mini canister for filtration. It's kinda overkill but takes up the least space in the jar. Also, I have started misting ferts and will probably ei dose along with excel when it's flooded. Pictures to come!

It seems you're right AquaAurora. You can never have too many bettas. I just ended up with a male HMPK and was so tempted to buy another girl yesterday lol.

What pump are you using to go with the Sunsun?

I'm just using the stock pump.

I added some glosso and took out most of the anubias. The monte carlo took off when I started misting ferts, but the fissidens is turning a bit brown.

Wait I'm confused. I was looking up the canister filter you are going with becomes I would like to do a table top somthing. It seemed to me by the discription of the unit that it goes in line with other filters/pumps. As in there is not a pump in it. I posted to ask and to point out if you hadn't noticed befoer buying.

I think it comes with a pump. At least that's what it says in the description. It's this one: Mini External Canister Filter Table Top Nano Fresh/Salt Aquarium SUNSUN 602B ($24.55 with free shipping)

There has been a slight change of plans...I flooded the jar! I got a bit impatient.

I went to Petsmart yesterday and stumbled across some clearance items. Among the stuff was a FX-200 canister filter for $14 (They also had a bunch of tanks for $1 per gallon that I had to force myself not to buy)! So I bought it instead of the Sunsun. It seems to be working well. Pictures coming soon.
