29g start up

Just got my first planted tank started. Hopefully I can get some CO2 going by next week. Still need to order a solenoid (recommendations would be appreciated). Eheim classic filter
Fluval P-24 led

You've probably noticed, but that river bed is going to fill in with darker substrate sooner than later. Do you have any sort of dividing wall in there? The tank looks good so far, a shot of it cleared up would be interested. As for the solenoid, I can't really suggest one. But check out some of the regulator builds in the DIY or even the for sale section and see what they are using.

Thanks!
Nothing dividing the substrate yet. might try to work something out. I'll post an update this evening when I get back. The water is cleared up and is looking nice. Still got a few stones and small pebbles I wanna throw in.

Some sort of wall or diving stones will go a long way to keep the dark substrate from washing over the lighter substrate. It gets really annoying if you have bottom dwelling fish!

Good luck with it. I have seen some people struggle and some without any issues.

Wow!! Love the sand. How I wish now that I had kept my 29g. You could get some clear plastic placements at Walmart and make dividers with that.

What type of Co2, DIY or pressurized?

Thank you! Pressurized CO2. Just purchased an ASCO solenoid off ebay. since the river bed substrate compacts more than the Fluval substrate it seems to be brushing off easily enough. I'm gonna try to slip some dividers in. And here is a picture of day 2 with a few more plants and a bit clearer water

First week down and I think it's looking pretty good. Been running a 7 hr photo period. dosing Flourish Potassium 3 times a week as recommended by the directions on the label. Hoping to have CO2 running in the next 2 days. Anybody know what I need to do about the white stuff on the wood? I planned on scrubbing it off with a toothbrush. About to do the first water change.

Looking good!

The white stuff on the wood is fungus, it's totally normal and will go away on its own in a couple weeks max. You can scrub it off but not sure it wont just come back.

2 weeks down. Here's the progress. Lots of growth. S. Repens could be doing better. The CO2 system still isn't fully functional. The needle valve is rated for to much flow and is not able to make the fine adjustments without walking, which resulted in putting a whole lot of CO2 into the tank while I was at work. I'm going to have to upgrade to a larger filter, as well. The Eheim classic 150 will go to my betta tank. Starating to notice some green on my wood. Wednesday the ammonia and nitrite levels were at 0. I added a bit of fish food to help start the cycling.

Today I ordered a M series swagekok metering valve and an Eheim 2215 to replace my 2211. Sucks not getting it right the first time but it's good to know my tank will be in much better shape and stable.
