New Member Here.....Tons of photos of my 55 gallon Update video link (Piranhas)

Update: I was bored last night and needed a break from school work.....

Enjoy!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCQAfsLji4M

Hi all, I'm glad to finally become a plantedtank.net member. I've lurked around and researched these boards for quite some time so a preliminary thanks goes to everyone who has posted invaluable knowledge throughout.

Anyway.....I currently have a 55 gallon stocked with the infamous pygo. natteri, aka Red Belly Piranha. The tank itself has went through a couple different phases from when I first started planting to now. I'm no expert by far, but I think I'm finally starting to get a nack for things.

Fluval 304 filter, pressurized co2, EI dosing regiment, and approximately 130 watts of light.

The pictures go in chrono order from oldest to newest. If not for anything else, it shows the progression which I'm sure, most of us have endured through trials and tribulations....Enjoy!!!!
The beginning: Still a lot to learn, you can see by the non-aquatic plants

1st day with the P's

Starting to get the bug.....

Starting to get a little more curious...

Quickly learned that pressurized CO2 = for the win!
Went on a sword o rama

My fiance and me had to move to a new apartment so everything was packed up and moved over. Ran into some bigger issues after the move

Started to lose some plants, so el switcheroo again

And then the infamous green water!! YAY!

Lost a lot of plants during black out and remediation, so the big switch was a necessary..

The P's

Things started coming along finally....

And that leaves us to today....

Thus far, for myself I'm still in the learning curve. It's a great hobby that consumes a lot of time and $ if I might add. All in all, I'm happy with progress thus far and I hope to only get better!

Thanks for checking my thread out!!!!

Patience, Patience, Patience

Pretty nice. Other than green water you seem to have missed most of the algae plagues. Can you tell us about lighting, photo period, fertilizer routine?

Sure...

Lighting is a coralife 130 watt 6700K setup. I'm going to be doubling that when the second coralife shows up sometime this week. Maybe that's asking for problems, who knows.

Photo Period is 9 hours per day in conjunction with CO2, light comes on at around 4PM and goes off at around 1AM.

Fertilizer routine is based on the EI method.
Saturday - 50% water change and seachem equilibrium, my water out of the tap is extremely soft.
Sunday - Dose Macros @ 1/2 teaspoon KNO3, 1/8 teaspoon potassium, 1/8 teaspoon phosphates
Monday - Micros via 1/8 teaspoon CSM+B
Tuesday - Macros at same rate minus phosphates
Wednesday - Micros
Thursday - Macros at the same rate minus phosphates
Friday - Micros
Saturday - Starts the cycle over with a 50% water change.

I just started this method about a month ago and seems to be working pretty good. I stopped dosing phosphates every other day because it was starting to kill off the glosso. I guess the excess phosphates had an effect.

Thanks!! Dissimilar to popular belief, I have never cared for fish that were more skittish or scared of my presence. There have been a couple close calls where I thought I would of been nipped but nothing too serious. Maybe when they get a little bigger I'll start to worry. For now, they're just kiddies with big teeth

Cool tank. I would be too scared to stick my hand in there to plant, lol.

Without Algae, death of mankind would be inevitable.

yea i was watching this show on Animal Planet about these Red Belly Piranhas in the wild. it showed them from birth, and followed them around as they grew. it was really neat seeing them in the wild, in one scene, they all swarmed and ate an angel fish.

I think these are the closest pics I have. There a little bit older but not too far off. There is something about these fish that really sucked me into the hobby.

Sorry for the dirty glass, and shoddy pics
