90cm/150litre "Patience"

I've spent last weekend stripping down my tank which had gotten very neglected for various reasons.

Just about got my hardscape sorted out. I was having real problems with gaining a sense of height and depth, but I think I've cracked it now. Before I had a line of rocks which looked quite nice, but was quite flat. After 2 hours of playing with substrate and rocks I've come up with this:

I'm going to fill in around the rocks some more with more AS Amazonia. just got another bag delivered today so tonight/this weekend is going to be full on planting and tweaking.

Edit 16/03/2009 - update to planting/specs

Planting:
  • Hemianthus callitrichoides "Cuba"
  • Pogostemon helferi
  • Eleocharis acicularis
  • Blyxa Japonica
  • Staurogyne Sp.

Tech Specs:
  • Dimensions - 90x35x45cm (ish)
  • Substrate - 18L ADA Aqua Soil Amazonia + Unipac Zambezi sand (padding under rocks)
  • Filtration - 2x Tetratec EX1200
  • Light - Arcadia 4x24w T5 Luminaire
  • CO2 - 5kg Fire extinquisher with solenoid. Glass diffuser(s).
  • Heater - Hydor ETH300 external

That's a really good looking hardscape, but looks better suited for short carpeting plants. I would hate to see those rocks lost among a bunch of stems.

The stems will be behind the rocks, with smaller plants inbewteen, and hair grass up front

Thanks! Can't wait to get home from work. I've got to cycle 3 miles with a 19l sack of AS on my back!

I keep looking at the first pic and imagining the planting. I really can't wait!!

Some additional specs (I'll add these to the first post later):

Filtration: 2x Tetratec EX1200's.
Lighting: Arcadia 4x24w T5 luminaire (will start off with 2x24w)
CO2: Pressurised (5kg fire extinguisher), glass diffuser
Heater: External Hydor ETH300

I think I've cracked it now. I'm pretty happy with how it looks. Added a second bag of AS, it must be about 6" deep in the back right corner! I might mine some out some day and pad it with some sand, cheap skate that I am :p

Wow very nice scape! The stones position look quite promising! You are lucky to get such nice mini land cape stones!

I think that the front right rock could be separated a little bit more from the rest. Worth a try, just to see what it would look like!

Thanks

I took your suggestion and moved the right front rock a tiny bit to the right, opening up the space between the two main front rocks (easier to get some plants in there!)

I think I'm starting to get an grip on a planting scheme. I've got 4 pots of Tropica HC on order. Not sure it's going to be enough, but I have a little more floating in my storage tank at the moment. Obviously the HC will be all up front and around to the left. Next, around the rocks will be Downoi, and I'm also playing with the idea of Staurgyne around the rocks too. Then, at the back right, behind the rocks, I'm thinking Bylxa. Then behind the rock at the back and moving to the left maybe the E. acicularis.

Waiting for plants to arrive at the moment. Also need to get my second 5kg CO2 fire extinguisher re-filled.

I've got 4 pots of HC comming, but I'm starting to think this won't be enough! I might order some more at the end of the week, after I've planted it all up... If I get time to plant this weekend of course...
