Me again! I thought I'd show you what I've been upto this weekend... I still can't believe how good this is lol
So, I've been following a few aquariums on a 'popular online auction site
' and I came across this tank:
Doesn't look good does it?
It had a bid at £0.99 so I told my father-in-law about it and he started bidding. Long story short, he got it for £79! We got it home and it was a complete MESS!!
We cleaned the inch of dust and cobwebs from the stand. It looks brand new... not even a scratch on it.
We emptied everything out of the tank. There were countless dead snails and some 7 day feeding rings that had been buried in the substrate and turned to mush.
The back of the tank had been painted blue and looked AWFUL. We decided to scraped this off (this took over an hour)
The filter is a set of 4 sponges that were clogged up with so much sludge that water could barely flow through it. We cleaned that out. New carbon bags in and one of the 4 sponges was replaced.
Motor (impeller) was cleaned and it runs probably 10 times better now.
The lighting was cleaned and it actually lights up the tank now (unlike before)
Phew! what a renovation job this was!
So... for £79... what did we get? Well...
- Juwel Rekord 800 tank & cabinet with inbuilt wier, filter and heater and lighting hood
- 20kg of aquarium gravel
- About 6 large plants
- Large 100l bucket, small 10l bucket and a 25l water container
- a 3 canister RODI system with connectors
- 5kg of green/black rock
- 5kg of driftwood
- 4 point extension socket with individual switches
- timer socket for the light
- a bag full of fish medicines (still sealed and in date)
- various fish foods with juwel automatic feeder
- CO2 reactor and diffuser plate (with some CO2 bottles too)
- siphon, nets and sponges
- 5kg of crushed coral
- 1 5" golden gourami
- 1 5" flash plec
- 3 dwarf gouramis
- 5 corys
- 2 rummynose tetras
All of this is £725... we got it for £79
It took about 4 hours to get it all cleaned (with 3 of us working on it) and then another 3 hours to get it aquascaped and get all the fish in.
WELL WORTH IT!!
Anyway, that's it for this post! I love reading posts like this from other PlantedTankians and thought I'd share the success haha
I thought it would be cool to show what can be done on an extremely small budget
I didn't get pictures because we had to get it all done as quick as possible because the fish were hanging around in a large bucket. I'll get some pictures of the tank added when the fish have settled in (they're in low light atm until they get used to their new home)
- 3 dwarf gouramis
- 12 neon tetras
- 6 corys (2 bronze, 2 albinos, 2 leopards)
- 5 otos
- 10 bladder snails
