2ft Rescape Tank Journal

Hi Guys,

Long time reader of the forum. I have learn't so much and can finally call myself a...beginner...planted tank enthusiast.

I've been running a 2ft tank for about a year now learning all about algae breakouts and how to control them.

Yesterday i decided to rescape my tank. I am by no means anywhere near an expert but like what i have come up with

Tank Specs:

Tank: Standard 2ft
CO2: Pressurized CO2 injection - 1bps through an atomizer hooked up to the canister outlet.
Lighting: 2x 60cm LED's (cheaper brand)
Filtration: Ehiem Pro 3 and AquaOne HOB.
Ferts: Seachem Flourish tabs
ADA Iron sticks
Substrate: Old EcoComplete topped with Seachem Flourish black sand.

Any advice would be really helpful.

If you can recommend the addition of any ferts would also be great, i've added seachem iron and pottasium in the past only to end up with dying plants and lots of hair algae.

Cool tank. Once those plants get some height in the back, that will definitely be awesome.

Is that a 25 gallon tank?

It's a 15 gallon tank.

I wish those plants would grow faster!

I really love your discus! They have great colors! However your 15 gallon tank will soon be highly inadequate for their adult size.

Nice re-scape.

I know it's frustrating to do. Just did mine last week. Took 2 weeks to decide how I was going to plant it. Nothing formal.

Cheers!

1 Week Update

Hi Guys,

One week has gone by and it's time for some new pics.

Can anyone help me with what ferts I should be adding. As you can see in the pics I am still battling algae

Also trimmed the S.Repens up front and replanted a few of the off cuts

new scape

Very nice. Get ready to do some trimming. Those plants in the back will take over your tank. But I like them. Good job

I added a basket of shrimp last week and my algae problem is in check.

Not gone, just controlled to where I no longer am over pruning.

Very interesting tank!!

What are the different species of fish you got in there? Discus look very happy! Their faces always look like they are smiling when they are young! I see you have some kind of hiding place for a fish in the back right corner. Whats it for?

I really like this tank! I can't wait to see how it fills in! As for ferts, I see you add Flourish tabs and Iron sticks. Other than that it is really hard to give advice especially on a 15g tank. What I would recommend is to watch the plants! If you see they are looking good and their color is good with no holes in the leaves or yellowing of leaves, or weak or brittle stems I wouldn't add a thing other than what you already do! If you start noticing anything I have mentioned or anything not normal then add accordingly.

In my 55g before I wend to a dirt substrate with a sand cap I dosed the EI method, but after "dirting" my tank I haven't had to add a thing in a while! I also have been battling Clado algae for a year now, but I think I about got it licked!

Anyway keep up the great work!

I also have shrimp in there however the population is kept in check by the Discus and Apisto's in the tank haha
