Death and life, new Dutch something or another (version 4.0)

So, the last scape is now dead. Wood was removed and the plants left in place.
I chose the hardscape materials today, they are soaking in a trash barrel for a week or so.

The idea is to have Riccardia covered "fingers" flowing with the downward current. the position is horizontal to the sediment which will be more sloped than the past scapes.

I'll be replacing the aged ADA AS also.

The outlined shape will be a low triangle basically and I'll not use many taller growing stem plants, Tonina might be the exception here. I want the flow highlighted mostly, or the feel of it, with the color below.

Depends on the changes I make to the 180 also as far as species, but over time,m I'll phase out some species and switch over to mostly Erios, Crypts, Downoi, Starougyne etc.

Mock up: the positions will be a little different etc once I add the soil and adjust. I'll go about 1/2 up the tank's full height in the rear and then down to the nub in the front leading edge.

Regards,
Tom Barr

Hey Tom.. Gorgeous driftwood BTW.. And awesome idea. I love theme tanks aka idea tanks and people who stick to the plan and don't fall into the 'More plants, More variety' kinda like I do all the time. But I am still new at this. And Tom, big Fan..

Will watch out for this one. Good luck.. Cheers

Some folks think nature, I do as well......but a concept rather than an actually scene itself. Then I chose color.

Matching the concept to the ability to trim and garden is also high on the trade off list for the design.

Plenty of neat concepts, but harder than heck to trim and keep up, and they often block the views I like.

Can't wait to see your new scape Tom. It's going to be a challenge to retain the slope over time.
I used multiple layers of various size egg crate diffusor and home depot lava rock as filler.
Works out well for me. But care needs to be taken when you pull the plants with deep roots.

Love the mock up Tom. I can already imagine the rows of the Riccardia "fingers" working lovely with the color of the plants. Can't wait!

I started reading...
So, the last scape is now dead. Wood was removed and the plants left in place.
And first thing I thought of was the buce tank...LOL...

The shortest distance between any two points is a straight line...in the opposite direction...

How many years would you say the ADA AS has lasted you typically?

I know may vary a bit for others based on water conditions and how much uprooting churning is done. I'm about tired of making osmocote capsules for my 135gal but the upfront cost of that much AS is a bit intimidating as well. Trade off...
