Just saying hello, and a pic.

I've been reading a lot of very helpful things here. Terrific site!

I have a 20 gallon that until today had a single 15 watt bulb and a Fluval 2 Plus submersible, both woefully inadequate.

Today I have installed a CF 65 watt light and an Eheim 2215 filter. Both work wonderfully, but unfortunately I can now see just how sad my plants are.

Nevertheless, I'm in a situation to improve conditions and I'm building a DIY CO2 set-up tomorrow.

I took advantage of my new lighting and took a pic of one of my fish, who cooperated quite nicely.

Welcome. I've done the DIY CO2 thing in the past and it does work. The plants will certainly appreciate it. That is a fantastic pic of your pleco. I look forward to seeing more pics as your tank improves.

Hello!
And I'll chime in on the pleco-pic praise. That's probably the best image I've ever seen of the species!

Thanks all for the kind words.

I took that pic with a Canon 20D and a 100mm/f2.8 lens at ASA 1600. It's better to stand back and zoom in than get close, because the water/glass/air interface distortions are worse the closer you get to the subject.

Anyway, I don't want to bore you with technical stuff. My tank looks worlds better than it did yesterday. The new filter is making a real difference. I have a bit of a bacterial bloom as a consequence of my recent ammonia spike, but I expect that to clear up.

I'll keep an eye on the pH, and get the CO2 levels to where they ought to be.

Next up aquascaping
