46 gallons of Sword Addiction - 2/6 Update - P. weitzmani pics

Despite the fact that this is one of my oldest tanks, this tank is the last of the 4 tanks I'm currently running to be converted to a Planted tank. My hubby gave me this tank as a wedding present almost 9 years ago, and it's travelled with me across the country, in the backseat of a car, several times. Tough old guy! This tank is currently in my living room at home.

About a year ago, this is what the tank looked like, complete with El Plasticos (gotta love the pink roots! ):

I removed all the plastic plants about 6 months ago when I started getting infatuated with Echinodorus species. IDK what it is, but swordplants have completely captured my heart. They are my favorite aquatic plant, by far. Only a few fit into the 'scape I had in mind for my 90gal, though, so the rest of my "collection" so far has been pining away in this tank, waiting for me to do something with it.

Within the next few weeks, I'm planning on terracing this tank and converting it over to mineralized soil, and then trying to find a "place" for all the variety of plants that are currently just STUFFED in here!

These pics were a few months ago:

And these were a few weeks ago (forgive the cell phone pictures of my "kids" LOL)

This tank ended up being my "extras" tank- so all the plants that haven't found homes elsewhere are in this tank.

The only livestock in here ATM are one albino long-fin bushy-nosed pleco, 25 Poecilocharax weitzmani, 2 dozen Amano shrimp, and of course, millions of assorted snails.

I couldn't even begin to name all the plants in here ATM. Najas guadalupensis is definitely trying to take over, though! These pics are taken AFTER I've cleared out and shipped at least a dozen portions over the past few weeks... LOL

Last but not least, tank specs:

46 gal bowfront tank
Coralife 2x21 watt T5NO (you see those REDS even with this super-low lighting and NO CO2! Gotta love T5s baby! )
Eheim 2217 (may replace with a 2215 or XP2 since the P. weitzmani are really struggling in this flow... we'll see)

Soon to add mineralized soil substrate.

WOW! A tank for a wedding present! That is awesome.
I've always wanted to try mineralized soil substrate, but could never find all the necessary parts for it! arggh

Contact Torpedobarb, he's got a thread going in the Substrate forum selling it pre-made.

brt_p- a Red Rubin is on my list but I don't have one quite yet.

Just a few more pics before the "big day":

Hellooooooooo Guppy grass! The P. weitzmani love it.

And I really like the Najas roraima that's mixed in

The biggest problem with Najas is that the stems are so brittle. I'd love to be able to transfer this out and back into the tank in this same thick glorious bush... but I know it will break all into pieces just as soon as I start pulling it out.

Oh well, it will definitely grow back quickly!

Low light plants seem to love my hard well water...

OMG I love that first pic with your cat, I thought the cat was sitting on the floor in front of the tank making it look HUGE!
Kind of an illusion pic lol!

Well, the "Big Day" still hasn't come... I've been trying to get my 29gal stable and haven't had a chance to do anything with this tank...

BUT I'm excited b/c I actually managed to catch a shot of my P. weitzmani flaring!

So here's a few shots of the fish and Amanos in this tank:

No, I've decided I really like this little guy. He does a great job with algae.

And I'm totally in love with the P. weitzmani. They've lost all their fear and associate me with food now; they come running up to the glass when I approach the tank.

I completely understand!

My (Galaxy) B/N Pleco keeps the tank very clean but is a major plant eater. She LOVES sword plants which I have to buy more of! *sigh*

OK I think this is my clearest close-up of a P. weitzmani to date:
