Low Tech 30 Gallon

Was originally planning on doing to 40 gallon breeder, but the local fish store had a deal on a 30 Gallon and top i couldn't pass up.

Figured I would start a journal because I am using a Finnex Stingray and thought there would be some intereste in the results.

Specs:
30 Gallon Tank (36x12x16)
36" Finnex Stingray
SunSun HW-302
Hydor Inline heater
Black Diamond Substrate
Stand Made by Myself

My plan is a low tech setup with a large school of cardinals.

Here is a quick pic of the stand I made. Still have to do a little trim work. I made it so the whole front panel comes off, so I can access inside the stand. The front panel is held on with some hard drive magnets I got from work. I am happy with how it turned out.

Here is the tank with substrate and wood in. Filled it with water and go it running last night will follow up with those pics soon.

Thanks for looking.

+1 on the driftwood, how bad did your water cloud up from the black diamond? Im thinking of switching to it.

Not to bad, water got cloudy, but I think it is more from the driftwood. Ordered some Purgin to throw in the filter to help clear it up.

Went to the fish store and got.
Needle Leaf Java Fern
Anubias Nana
Put some Bacopa in there to see how it does.
Some type of Hygro
Pygmy Chain Sword
Water Sprite

Going to fill in with more ferns and anubias. I will post a pic of the tank later.

Do you know which pygmy chain sword you got. I have a lot of luck with the one I have but can't remember which one. My tank is low tech and the sword almost filled the whole bottom. I think I have the name wrote down I'll check tonight

Not sure, my local fish store isn't great with names, just called in pygmy chain sword.

Photo with cloudy water, floating driftwood, and new plants.

Have some purgin I will put in the filter tonight. Will rearrange plants once driftwood sinks. No rush for that. Also need to put on a backround, forgot that part... Will probably just use black tag board.

Welp. Just got a nice bonus at work. So I might change my plans a little bit. I am thinking of upgrading my lighting .Still want to be in the lower tech realm of things. But am willing to dose excel if needed. And ferts.

I've narrowed it down to 2 options. Getting another Finnex Stingray or adding Current Satellite + with my the stingray I already have. Either option I think would put me into the lower range of med light. Another Stingray would be cheaper, but the Satellite+ would give more color. Any thoughts on either options? Or a different suggestion?
