opinions on wood

so this is the main piece i have decided on, any opinions? this is also the first time i've put wood in a aquarium so i have no idea of what the proportions should look like... this is a 29g, and i think it's bog wood or Malaysian drift wood lol (idk).

btw, i have had this piece sitting in a large bucket for like 6 months now out in the back yard trying to get rid of the tannin. i had a couple of power heads hooked up and changed the water about once a week. hahah, i hope that was okay. is that going to affect anything in the aqaurium? i does have a little algae on it.

sorry about the poor image quallity, that's about the best my phone will do. + it's still a little cloudy in there. and don't worry about the lights. i just turned them on to take the pics, lol.

keep in mind i want try and replicate a amazon blackwater theme...

a little closer

IMO, I think it will look great for what you want...

Haha, I think you soaked it long enough. My African bog wood did not really do much to the water... I boiled it for a couple hours and called it good.

Good luck with the tank, and keep us updated!

it got soaked that long just because that's how long it took me to make a decision on exactly what my out of my aquarium. this has been in the planning stages for a long time. i got out of saltwater about a year ago and it took a while to gather up all the pieces. then i wanted to make sure that what i'm after is what i really want. if that makes sense...

trouble is now that i found this wonderful site and have to re-learn the planted aquarium, lol. ie: ferts, co2, light, aquascaping w/plants and wood. i got pretty good w/ rock/corals imo, now i feel like a aquarium newb again.

ha ha, after looking at the pics on the computer and making some observations of how the pros do it, i have already done some repositioning and sloping of the substrate to make it look better. in my attempt to get everything going yesterday (with the two year old all over me the whole time) i also realized that i had misplaced the inlet and outlet for the filter, fixed that too. lol the water is now circulating in a circular manner.

i'll take better pics with a real camera after i start to plant.

edit - never mind, i've already put my foot in my mouth enough times today...
