Lorenmws 40g Iwagumi, Planting has begun!

I had a 40g breeder sitting in my garage for quite a while and I finally have decided to do something with it. My first Iwagumi! I built a stand for it, also my first attempt at cabinetry.

Got the tank all cleaned out and ready to go-

I found a local dealer that still had a few bags of SMS charcoal-

I located a lawn and garden store with some cool non ph altering rock and designed my hardscape-

The light fixture I have is an Oddysea 24" 2x55watt 9325k bulbs. My filtration is in the mail- Eheim 2213 classic. My plan is to have a foreground of HM and a background of DHG. I haven't decided on fish yet. I want there to be quite a few shrimp in the tank so I might not do fish at all. I think I'm gonna go with RCS and low grade CBS.

Any comments on the hardscape is appreciated and any critics are welcome too!

I love it But I would upgrade the light You might also want to get a powerhead for extra flow. My 2213 is barely enough for my 20 gallon, but you will probably have mostly low lying plants, but I would still suggest getting a powerhead

looking great already...love the depth of the tank. I hated myself for grabbing my 38G 36x12 footprint. Can't wait to see it planted...good luck..

I love how the rocks are "sunked" into the substrate. Can't wait to see this grow!

I received my Eheim in the mail a couple of days ago. I filled it up with water and got it half way planted today. Still need to buy the hairgrass.

Looks nice. Will be refreshing to see an hm foreground as opposed to some of the more common ones

I don't know if I'd have the patience to individually plant 225 stems/sprigs of HM. It'll be worth it in the end though...no doubt!

I build decks for a living and lift hundreds of pounds a day and this made my arm and shoulder sore.

Did you use any particular pattern while planting? I think if I was going to do it I'd go with a grid of some sort.

I know it all grows the same, I'm just one of those people that tends to develop a system for everything they do.

This is probably one of the more original Iwagumi I've seen I love the rock placement on the right and the sloping.

Nope, I just kinda eyed it as I went. I worked in one of those big box pet stores for several years and got corn rowing pounded into my head.

What type of shrimp do you guys think will look best with the dark substrate and rock? I'm thinking Bee, Tiger or Low Grade CBS.

What do you think?
