Fish Dorks German Rams ***NEW PICS oct 9

I picked up these 2 rams about a month ago and they've now done there time in the holding tank and have made it to the communtiy! There colour is starting to show nicely. Please try to ignore the green spot on the glass... I'm currently fighting off a few types of algae due to reworking some of the tank. Thanks for looking!

Great shots, love the black on these guys. Nothing wrong with the tank IMO.

I think they'll be ok. I hear that many people have issues with GBR's that come from sources that hormone them to bring the colours up. These guys are apparently from a local breederk so I'm hoping they do a little better.

I mean that my male killed all the females I got him, so I had to give him away. Your rams look very healthy though and I hope they pair up!

Wow! That's too bad that was a beautiful male that you had. I think it helps that these guys are in an 80 gal and the female has places to hide. That's too bad about yours.

Yeah. He's in a 55g now, so he'll be happier than in my 29g, now I'm getting some less aggressive apistos. Your pair totally have more than enough room.

The males dorsal rays are starting to extend! The colours on these guys just keep getting better. Today the pair was defending a spot from a tiger barb. The female ram is not even half the size of the barb.

Here's some pics of the male

And here's one of the female, I was having trouble with her staying still, so I'll have to try for better pics later. Please excuse the dirty glass

Thanks for looking!

I was thinking the same thing about the female having eggs soon. Both of the rams are showing defensive behaviour as well. They are in a community tank, though, and I wonder if any offspring will survive. There are plenty of places to hide, so who knows. The shrimp seem to do ok in there. I just never see them!

I just get lucky! If it weren't for digital cameras and taking 100+ shots at a time I wouldn't either. Even with all of these shots I still didn't get the ideal one... I just posted the best pics with the nicest colour.

Quick update! Yes the female was ready to burst. She laid a bunch of eggs at the front of the tank... only to have them eaten later on that evening by the male. With the next batch I plan to move the pair when the female starts showing, into a 10 gal that I keep cycled. I've been told that the rams will eat the eggs if they are feeling too threatened. Before they were eaten the pair was doing a nice job of watching over the eggs and it was neat to watch. Could just be inexperienced parents as well... but next time I'll take no chances. I wasn't prepared with food for the fry either so that will also need to be sorted for the next shot.
