picture of my 20gal planted before trimming

Just figured I would post a pic of one of my tanks because i never really have. This is my planted 20 gal before i trim it down tommorrow...should be trimmed about every other day but I only get to it like once a week so it looks like a jungle. once I clean it up a little tomorrow might post another pic. Just used a cheap digital camera so not that great of a photo.

lights

the lights are just some cheap flourescent shop lights that i rigged to the top of the tank and cover with a pillow cover lol. I think there is about 80 watts over it. I want to upgrade to power compacts and more wattage because I think thats why everything is growing up and not out. I just upgraded my brackish to a 55 gal though(pic below) and cant afford it right now. The trimmings i ussualy just throw them away...I think last week i had half a 5 gallon bucket full heh.

You might not want to have fabric so close to the lights. Just a heads up.....

Rather than tossing your trimmings why not post them for FREE on the SwapNShop. Say the taker must pay postage. There are alot of people out there struggling to fill their tanks with plants but can't afford to buy them. Many can swing $5 for shipping. You can get the boxes free at the PO.

Just keeping on keeping on....

yeah

The lights dont really get that hot, well, they get kind of hot but the cover has been there for about 2 years...when i first set it up I had the same concern but I monitored it for a couple weeks when i first set it up and it just gets a little warm to the touch. I live in iowa if anyone wants some of the trimmings I can send them too you but most of the stem plants i pull and trim the bottom and the swords I just cut the leaves. I think that the stems in the back are red lugwigia which are pretty easy to find but I always have a lot of that and elodia. If anyone wants some dwarf Val(the grass plant in the front) though i can pull a few up and send you some. I know how hard it is to get started in this hobby and we all know how hard it is on the wallet(pressurized co2 etc.). My email is [email protected] if you want some pearl weed or dwarf val. I have 3 other planted tanks that have java moss and bacopa that I could probably spare too so just send me a message.

Is that really a dwarf val that you have in the front? It looks almost like chain sword to me.
