2.5g shrimp tank photo journal

I'm making my 2.5 minibow into a shrimp tank. I have this heater and will be using this filter (with a sponge cover.) I got the tank (and a bunch of other stuff, including another "desktop" tank) for $2 at a garage sale, they just wanted it gone!

About 12 red cherry shrimp will live in there (is that to much?) No fish. Lots of plants.

I put in a CF spiral bulb (I think it's 15watts?) It works well, Plants I've trown in (floating) have thrived in there.

I don't know if I'll get around to setting it up today or not.

Any ideas or suggestions?

(Is this section okay? Couldn't decide if it was best here, in the shrimp section, or the nano section. So I put it here.)

Well, I decided to set it up (mainly to put on doing math homework It did eventually get done!)

So the idea was to have a 'river' of sand. I know you have all seen it before, but I like it And I had this little bridge laying around (came with the $2 Box o' fish stuff!)

Added gravel to the outside (might switch it, not sure yet. It's not going to be planted with lots of stems or anything, so I think the gravel will be OK)

Added the sand

Here is is more eye level, with the bridge too.

Planted a bit, added some manzanita driftwood. I was going for a "tree" of "stump" look.

Once I went to put on the filter, I realized that the wood needed to be on the other side of the tank. So after about 30 minutes of playing with it, and three zipties, I was happy

Pics from last night:

From this morning

I'm pretty happy so far. There's some E Tenellus, E. angustifolious, dwarf sag and a moss ball in there. Maybe I'll put some moss on the "tree", not decided one way or the other yet!

I have two baby platies in there right now, they'll come out when the shrimp go in. The filter media is from cycled filters, which should seed this tank nicely, and speed things up

So, what does everyone think?

I am currently setting up one of those exact same minibows, to turn into a little nanogarden! I couldn't stand the translucent rainbow-brite hood though, so I spray-painted it all black, and even after 3 coats, the light still shines through.

At any rate, it looks good! I don't particularly care for that bridge, though, but as long as you like it, that's all that matters. Good luck!

Maybe latex paint would work better? Just a thought I'm not a huge fan of the color either, any time I see if from down the hall my brain jumps to "Why is there a buoy in my room?"

I'm not sure about the bridge either, for now it stays. It's always easy to pull!

Wow - you are so creative. You have great ideas. I just looked at your 'garden' and linked over here. I love this set up - and the little shrimpies can walk across the bridge. *geeks out*

I think this is one of the best desktop tanks I've seen. It's cute and original.

Thank you

I've added a tiny anubias nana and a anubias coffeefolia. Also, a few stands of not-taken-over-with-evil-string-algae-that-is-trying-to-take-over-all-my-tanks moss *cough* That's a mouthful

I might put some wisteria/watersprite in there. Any thoughts to this effect?

Oh, I put in one RCS last night because the tank has seemed to cycle (it wasn't much since the filter (and the sand) had already cycled) I couldn't find him this morning, I'm hoping he's just out of site (lots of hiding places in that tank! But I didn't find the body, that's a good thing

So I decided to take a picture (why I chose to when the water lever was low from water changing, who knows...)

when suddenly WTF IS THAT!?!?!?!

So, all plants, decor and shrimp were removed in the catching of the evil damselfly nymph process. On the plus side: I know how many shrimp I have now (a dozen) on the down side: I have to replant...
