75 gallon rescape - final update 4/11/09

Look what I found today. I went looking for a few branchy pieces to help rescape my tank and I found this instead. You can see my screen door in the background for reference. This will be a centerpiece for sure.

I finally got a chance to measure it. Length (38") and height (16") are ok, but depth (front to back 29") is way too big. I think I'm going to have to cut this piece in half just to make it fit.

then you have 2 peices so you can put it in 2 tanks, and you can put the flat part against the glass so it wont look bad at all. i just suggest covering the top with ferns or anubias so you dont see the flat cut area.

You can see in the second and fifth picture that I can split it right down the middle. Each piece will still have lots of branchy parts. I was thinking that maybe after I cut it, I can put them both in the tank together (one stump in each corner) with the branches intertwined.

The wood has been cut and it just doesn't have that original majestic look. Both pieces are still slightly bigger than the tank will hold so I'll have to either get creative placing them in the tank or cut part of the branches off.

Still a nice bit of wood. I've been after something that big for a while now but they never have anything remotely near that large very often. It's pricey stuff over here too.

I finally took down the tank today, an all day affair as usual. I got the bug to try out the new wood late tonight and here's the first take. I'm going to need to cut a small piece off from the piece on the left as it is too big and almost scratched the glass as I was trying to get it in there.

This is one of my favorite parts of the wood, almost looks like a unicorn horn.

I like the look of the open top with the wood coming out. I was thinking I could put some kind of terrestrial plant on the one branch (see pic 3). Any ideas? Would an anubias grow completely out of water, obviously I would need to water or mist it everyday until the roots reached the water.
