Rhy's redone 20 gallon tank *just added pics*

woo, so i decided to change my 20 gallon planted tank with sand substrate to reg black inert substrate.

Thats because im making the tank mostly with rooted plants such as anubias and java fern. I might make moss carpets too.

I got everything done in about an hour and a half (relocating the fish temp and getting the sand out, gravel in)

Even though i washed the gravel through twice before hand, it is still cloudy >< So i am running an aquaclear stuffed with filter foam and carbon and a xp3.

Here are some stats:

tank, 20 gallon long
gravel, black inert gravel
ferts, nothing other than excel and fish poo
c02, two nutrafin canisters running on a diy mix with the ladder. I might switch to a bell diffuser though
filtration, one xp3 filter
heater, neptune 20 gallon heater that keeps my tank at around 84 degrees F

stocking, im still a bit iffy about.
Current stocking now is 11 neons, 1 3 inch albino bn pleco, 3 corydoras swartzch, 3 otos and one angelfish (i am holding the angelfish for my cousin who is cycling his tank, almost done and he might take the otos too.)

When everything is done, i mostly want a large group of neons. I probably will return the corys for store credit at my lfs since i will now have gravel.
For a final stocking is this alright?
One albino bn plec
20 or so neons and maybe the 3 otos if my cuz doesnt take it.
Yes, i know thats a lot of neons but they are pretty small bodied fish and the only other fish is the plec.

Any thoughts?

Ill post pictures either tonight or tomorrow because i have to find the cord for my sisters camera and see if it will work with my new computer.

thanks

hm, maybe tonight lol, i gotta eat dinner now.

I might lower the heater so that it goes down to 82 but i dont even know if that will help because its off half the time.

The water is clearing up pretty fast o.o

i really like the new look lol. imo, it looks awsome and i also put in my new piece of driftwood that i still need to boil and get rid of the "drift" part of it.

Lol, im so sorry. I kinda got caught up with school and all the good (not) stuff.

Well heres the pics, I have a lot of pics of the whole thing, from when i first started the tank. But it would take forever to upload lol.

draining

Where i kept the fish temporarily

Filling it up and the new black inert gravel and water

all done The water was cloudy was it cleared up the next day.

My new piece of driftwood (long one) that is still floating. I put it in the tank just to see how it looks. Imma filll it with weeping moss (if i can find it cheap) japanese java fern, and anubias nana that i buy either from here or AquaticMagic from ebay. That will have to wait until next week though cuz im going on a cruise next week and i dont know when it would come.

(the mopani is just there to weigh it down)

My anubia bateri!

It has 21 or so leaves now and i have pulled about 2 leaves out already.
Here are pics of it when i first got it. Wee little thing it was

Can you believe it got it from petco for only 5 bucks :O Ive had it since november

Ill get pics of my fish tonight. I wish i could get it now because my sis just got a new camera YAY but she has to use it tonight at some party.

I love critizism. Bring it on

thanks

Definitely a nice start! Should get some more plants though.

This is totally off topic but which Asian grocery store did you get the calendar in the back from? We have some in our house too!

lol, that calendar is so old. My aunt gave it to me.
Cool, you live in orlando too :O

If i had to guess though, my aunt probably got it from a store on Colonial Dr.

Yeah, my dad just aggreed to let me buy plants. It might have to wait until after next week though (cruise)

Here are some plants i have in mind, weeping moss, japanese java fern, and anubias nana.

just got back from my cruise. Dead tired.

all 3 of my corys are dead >.> I have no idea why.

I have to switch my angel someday.

I really hate the fact that my tank is really dark. Partly cuz of the tannins and light. I will have to ask my dad to move the light forward a bit and make some relectors.

As for tannins, i cant find purigen ><.

Has anyone ever bought Anubias Barteri Petite from AquaticMagic?

CobraGuppy: You'll come out better buying some 'petite' here in the swap and shop. Not that their plants aren't good but you'll get more for your money.

i tried doing that lol. The thread died o.o

I just got some Purigen!
It was 100 ml for 4 bucks. It says that 100 ml can treat 100 gallons but i put the whole thing in my 20 gallon tank in an aquaclear 30.

Would that be alright? Its 5 times more than recommended

Yeah it's fine, it just means you don't have to regenerate it that often. Umm soo $4 for 100mL where at?? I think I got mine for $10 .

Petsmart recently had purigen on clearance. I got 250ML for 6.99

I don't know if this was a local clearance or nationwide, might want to check it out though!

yeah, i liked the sand too, very smooth look but it made my neons timid and was compacting.

I dont like the way the anubias looks on the left right now. I might move it behind the long piece of wood to the far back right. It just looks a bit bare.
Now that i think about it, i may have the tank full of just anubias o.O

Im gonna try to look for some more pieces of driftwood that has long branch though, i think it would look better than two.

pics to come soon...
