Ten gallon Planted tank Journal

Hello, after returning from vacation 2 summers ago and finding my beloved tank infested by hair algae , I took down my tank, put my catfish in another ten gallon, and went on to establish a healthy 40g reef tank without looking back. Now, with my reef mostly stable, I have started my tank again.
So far, I have:
  • A ten gallon tank
  • Already cycled water
  • A penguin biowheel filter
  • A 15 watt heater
  • Some rocks
  • A 4.5" growing bull catfish that will need a new home shortly
I need to decide on:
  • Low tech or high tech
  • A light, either a regular 20 watt strip light, a 40 watt compact florescent, or something else.
  • Substrate, Possibly sand, or whatever new types there are.
  • Fish, something that would be compatible to Mr. Catfish
  • Fertilizers, I have A lot of Greg Watson ferts, but I may not use them
  • Plants, Only one I currently have is an anubias.
  • Anything else I have forgotten to mention.
Any suggestions will be most appreciated, and pictures will be coming soon. I'm hoping to meet everyone and I hope that my experiences can hep others in need.

FWIW, if you plan on keeping that bio-wheel, I think you're gonna have to keep it low-tech... it'll outgas any CO2 you add to it.

definately go low tech...its alot easier...i have a 10 gall planted and it is awesome...i have an aqua-tech 10-20 power filter on it and it works fine. for substarte...i like the look of Seachem Flourite...beautiful colors. i just have the 15 watt strip that came with the tank...it gives my plants just enought light to grow crazily and yet i have no algae.!!!

G-mont all the way!

55 gal planted, 10 gallon electric yellow cichlid fry tank (gone), 18 gal electric yellow cichlid mouth brooder holding tank (gone), and soon to be a 55 gallon pimpin discus tank (workin on it)!
