Well this is my first go around with live plants. My past few tanks have just been simple hardscapes since i was keeping discus.

Tank: mr. Aqua 48 gallon

Substrate: pfs for right now will be switching to ada power sand and aqua soil

Lighting: diy 24x3w leds 12x6500k 12x4500k

Plants: bacopa, telanthera, narrowleaf java fern, cyperus helferi, and some moss on the driftwood.

Fish: 5 f1 altums, 30+ cardinals, 6 otos

Co2: 10lb tank, running at roughly 3bps

Dosing: flourish, excel, aquavitro n&p

My near future plans for the tank are to change out the substrate for powersand and aquasoil, just nervous cause of an ammonia spike as my fish were not cheap. Also plan on having a full dwarf hairgrass carpet and maybe adding some form of rotala or ludwigia. The only real probalem that i think i have right now is brown fuzzy algae on leaves and the plants are barely starting to bounce back now that ive added co2. I. Sure they will benefit from a good substrate as i am not using root tabs with the pfs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Will try and update at i move along with this experiment of growing plants or algae.

My tank is finally clearing after putting in the aqua soil. Next time I am starting dry and not on an established tank. I'm no expert at aquascaping, this is my first attempt at trying to grow plants.

I still need to plant my dwarf hairgrass on the right side I am going to try and grow a carpet on 3/4 of the whole right side.
