29 Gallon Journal: 1-19-08 Update (56k)

So I've finally started putting everything together after months of having the equipment, etc. This is my very first planted tank.

Specs:

29 Gallon All-Glass Aquarium
Coralife 1x65 watt PC fixture
Eco Complete Substrate
Rena Filstar XP2

Here's a pic of the tank before breakdown, with all the plastic plants, etc.

After breakdown

Possible Placement of Driftwood

Good choice of equipment and substrate. Can't wait to see it planted!

Thanks.

I have the current imhabitants in my 10g which are 3 glowlight tetras and 4 cories. Any suggestions for some other fish? I was thinking rainbows or a nice betta. Also for plants I plan on having java moss attached to the driftwood, java fern, rotala rotundifolia, giant hygro, cabomba caroliniana, vallisneria, and marsilea minuta to make a nice carpet. I'm also gonna do diy co2 and rex grigg ferts.

This one sounds pretty close to mine. Only differences I see so far is that I have pressurized CO2 and 2X65W.

As far as fish goes, I have about 5 glowlights and some cardnial tetras along with some harlequin rasboras. The 29 is a good footprint, but I wish I had a 37. Good luck and keep us posted. I am looking forward to its progression.

Although Im not crazy about the bleaching, that's a gorgeous piece of wood. Looks like you're doing everything right so far.

Well, a couple of months ago in the summertime, my dad and I went to pick up some crabs for a cookout, and we drove way way out in the country. These people had all this driftwood outside and said it was for sale. So I went and picked some out and went inside and said how much for all of these. The woman said that the driftwood came with the shop when they bought it, and they were trying to get rid of it and I could have as much as I wanted for free, so I picked that piece, and a few others. My dad went crazy and got like 15 pieces....which are sitting in the basement

Funny, I used to have harlequins in that tank, but they all died. I was thinking about getting some cardinals XD.

Very nice. Did you have to do anything to get it to stay down?

Well the tank's not filled, but I know i'm going to have to tie rocks to it or something(which i planned on adding anyway) to keep it down until it's fully waterlogged. I boiled it though, so it's soaked some.

EDIT: Went to the LFS today and got some rocks. Here's some of the possible placements. Which ones do you guys like? I cant really decide, I keep moving them around.

I like the first rock placement. It doesn't looked too clumped together

I like the 2nd rock placement. I really like the wood and I think the 2nd one shows it off a little better.

If you put some more substrate at the back of the tank and slope it down it gives the 'scape a little bit of depth too.

Currently resetting...

Rule #1 when it comes to hardscaping, stick to one type of rock...
Nice DW
