54g ~CORNER~ Journal!

Just bought this today. For those who don't know me, I had a 120g planted tank that I decided to convert to saltwater. I sold off most of my plants and fish, and then I realized...the remaining fish happened to all be favorites of mine!! So I decided to keep them, which meant I needed to buy a tank!

So, here it is.

Looks FUN!! I love new tank stuff and all the fun of starting new. Are you planning on more light, or just whats in the picture?

Beautiful set up. I look forward to seeing it filled with plants.

It's not converted yet. I'll let you know! Getting this tank was a big step. I needed to move my remaining fish and plants into it so I can clean out the other.

Thank you!! I realized that I would miss having a planted tank and would eventually want another one. Might as well do it now!

P.S. The fish in my sig are the planned stocking list. I will probably add a bristlenose pleco and maybe 2-3 more Otos. I'd get another Gold Ram, but after losing 4...I just don't know. This one definitely needs a friend, though.

Go with Apistogrammas instead of rams, 3 females to 1 male. They're pricey though, but if you like that kind of fish, you can ship them in from breeders who only deal with strong stock, much hardier than rams and there's a ton of species/color options. I would say talk to Apisto Dave at apistogrammaidiots.com, but the site seems to be down. I'm sure the people in the Apisto forums know whats up.

You should fill this tank with crypts and anubias after you start it up with your stems. Awesome stand and canopy that came with it.

Whole new plan for this tank. Well, sort of. Still a planted tank! Going with smaller, schooling fish and shrimp!!

I decided on AH Supply retrofit lighting. Total watts - 137. That puts me around 2.4wpg.

I'm installing the lights today, and I'm posting this while I wait for the husband to bring me a fresh battery for the drill. I killed this one. hehe

Here's a pic of the lights so far. The two sides are 6700k and the one across the front is 10,000k.

That's how it's done right there. Glad to see you're still motivated.

OMG if you put a circular or even a normal 70 or 150w metal halide right in the center of those three AH supply kits you would have the most ballin light set up ever!! DO IT! PLZ?

The problem with adding something to the center there is that I drilled a hole right there, dead center, to run the cords out of. I'll post pics of the ballasts mounted soon.

I just plumbed the xp3, threw in a heater, planted, finished filling it up with water....everything looks killer. I never imaged the display would look so damn cool!!! Now I can stop complaining about the limited space under the tank!!! Wow!

I'll post pics tomorrow when the water has cleared back up. I also need to clean the glass since I let water sit stagnant for a week in there.
