20g Long re-scaped! Getting there...

Whut up?!

So, I re-scaped my 20g long C. irrubesco tank. The wisteria is still in emersed form, and the ludwigia and cabomba need to get established.

Some changes between the first two pics and the third:

I added C. torta

Moved the mother crypt 'tropica' over from my 10g (and stripped it of the runners, which I re-planted in the 10g)

Took out one of the pieces of driftwood

Took out a couple stems of the submerged form of wisteria.

Rearranged the lineup of the background (moved the aponos to the corners, and switched places between the ludwigia and cabomba).

I'm very happy with the new scape, and it will sit like this now until the plants get established and grow.

Let me know what you think

Before:

When I first set it up (everything was previously owned, which is where there was so much thread algae):

Later, I rearranged the driftwood, and added the cabomba, ludwigia, fresh wisteria, and the aponos and stellata lillies I was growing in my 10g DP tank:

Now:

This is muuuch closer to what I envisioned. I still need to get some riccia for the driftwood and figure out if I'm keeping the green crypts, but I want to see what the new growth looks like first

Right side (I love those lilies, but the green one is growing slower for some reason):

Left side:

My original plan was to make it viewable from both sides, but after packing it with stems, it now needs a background.

Yeah as soon as I learned about the species I was fascinated. The entire genus is awesome!

Thanks man!

I picked up some Rotala walichii and red temple from Coopers store (Fish etc..), and Victor (Marimo Ball) gave me some HC!

I was lucky to stop by right when they were getting started on setting up a display nano at the store, it turned out really really nice!

Thanks Cooper! They're growing well, and pearling nicely, except the cabomba.

I choped it in half because it was too tall for the tank, and it doesn't seem to be doing well. I'm hoping it's just going through that first stage melt and it'll come back.

The walichii was pearling as soon as I put it in my tank

Yes, it's completely freshwater. It's name is Carinotetraodon irrubesco

Fish Etc.. has them and you can order from their website: http://www.fish-etc.com/

I picked up all the females, sorry, but he still has a lot of nice males, some already full grown at 2", and some smaller juvenile ones.

Only the males have the red tail and dorsal fin, and some red along the back.

Serg thanx with helping to plant the HC. Coop will be posting a new thread on the tank set up. Your tank has come a long way from the first pic. The DP fish are perfect for that tank. I can just imagine seeing them swimming in and out through all those plants. Nice work. Id say plant the HC in the center foreground and replant it as it spreads.

Thank you victor for letting me help, and thank you for the HC! I had fun, and the experience made me realize that the scape is much more of an art form, and needs a lot of careful consideration.

I'm going to rescape my tank as soon as I can find some nice rocks and driftwood.

I planted the HC in the center of the tank beneath the light just to get it established, and i ordered the legs for the light last night, so they should be here by thursday.

Once I get the legs, I'll move the HC to the foreground and post some pics.

Thanks Mike! I've always felt this was a temporary layout, and after helping out Victor and Cooper to scape the new display nano (I think TPF members are really going to dig it), I have new determination to make the layout look more dramatic and interesting.
