I'm new to the hobby but have always wanted an aquarium. Im no stranger to water chemistry, processes and all that, but most of my experiance lies in rockpools and rivers. I am also abit of an obsessive reader so did plenty of research (and lusting) before I started, and much more since!
I decided to start quite conservatively (matching my circumstances and budget...)
Aquael 24 x 12 x 12 Tank Kit
15W T8 with reflector
Aquael internal power filter 85G/hr
Substrate is Laterite and Sand
Picked up a nice looking peice of root wood for the hardscape
Planned stocking will be light, a small shoal or two of tetras or rasboras with some shrimp.
Here it is when I put the wood in:
Currently it doesnt look much different, the rock has gone (after as much soaking as my patience could withstand, the wood still had a touch of boyancy!) and the root has grown some lovely new-wood white fuzz.
Water parameter wise its still cycling.
Dosing ammonia up to 3-5ppm
Nitrites rising nicely
No sign of Nitrates yet
Thanks for looking, any tips or critisims welcome
