Big low light tetra tank

100~125 gallons (craigslist... and weird dimensions) with 160 watts of CF light overtop.

2 albino corys
3 ottos
10~ amano shrimp
??~ malaysian trumpet snails
2 dwarf pea puffers
20~ baby neon tetras
10 Colombian Tetras

One 1000gph canister, one enheim 2213 canister running out of an overflow which is now setup off to the left of the tank. The big UV sterilizer in the corner has been decommissioned but left in place due to growth.

Should full in nicely if the moss doesn't bury everything. Low quality video of the Colombians schooling here -> https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/ph...allon-low.html

It cost almost nothing, it's uber bright, and I get ripples as if using halides. How about you? Yeaaaaah that's what I thought, punk.

Could you elaborate what you did with that light there? How did you make it?

Also, I'd be careful with the dwarf puffers, they tend to nip fins and kill fish.

I don't think it's just PC desk lamps. They don't give that much light, and they're not that cheap either.

BAAH! Wrote a huge reply and this stupid work machine has a "go back" button on the mouse.....

At anyrate;

Yeah - the dwarf puffers are small enough and the tank is large enough that I suspect the Colombians will be fine. The neons I'm not so sure. They don't appear to attack the shrimp (yet) but do a nice job of keeping the trumpet snails under ground.

The lighting is setup with 2 PC desk lamps (old, probably expensive back in the day...) and 4 PC workshop lamps (cheap). All the bulbs are 6500k 32 watt PC bulbs from the local hardware store (cheap). Tinfoil is sexy (cheap).

As for impressing the ladies, I'm sure the foam mattress on the floor for a bed, ghetto rigged AC unit hanging out the window surrounded by cardboard, or sheets screwed into the roof to "liven up the room" would take care of that long before the tinfoil lighting.

When I got the tank on the stand and fulled up with water I noticed there were water spots on the back. DOH. This was many, many months ago. I have no intention of moving this tank unless I'm actually moving. Now that there's no massive pleco in here and I have more lighting I anticipate the back getting covered in a nice wall of brown and green algae. No worries.

The tank looks just fine if you are not too of a picky person. Yes, it needs more detailing to be on the show off level, but I like how the scape looks myself, but maybe more depth with taller plants back. Last time I tired using tinfoil as reflectors, it turned dark brown on me after a few weeks. Apparently tinfoil doesnít reflect lights as well as white reflectors from white Iíve understand.

Hey~~ good job so far, please keep us update.

It's a pitty you can't use HTML code in your messages or I'd just embed this, but, alas, an update on the tank. Still haven't bought decent batteries for the camera, so again from the phone. Colombians also spawned
