My first planted tank - 120g - Journal (56k nono!!)

Starting an official journal, so I'll start from the beginning. I originally planned to research, research, research and buy a saltwater setup. I wanted to go BIG (I didn't want to feel like I needed to upgrade later). Then I started pricing everything.. Started looking at used, and stumbled upon this planted tank that a friend had and was willing to part with. Saw it in person and fell in love. Saltwater project is on hold.

First day set up:

Day 3, pretty darn clear.

There were 2 snails, but I donated them to my mother-in-law's koi pond.

Then I added 2 Onion Grasses, and rearranged the rocks and piece of wood a little.

I fought with those onion things for several days. They are planted too deep now, but it'll have to be fine until they root well.

Then I got some big Amazon Swords from If_Fishes_Were_Wishes

And finally a picture without the flash!!! Finally figured out what setting to put it on so that there's no flash AND it pics up enough light. Jeez!!

That is one SERIOUS cabinet!!!
The scape is looking real nice. The big sword really did a lot for the look of your scape I like it.

The only thing I would do is nix the bio wheel,Get another can and raise the spray bars out of site either on the back or sides of the tank and get more plants on the side to hide equipment.
coming together nice.

As always, great job Amanda, im glad you like the tank and everything else. It seems like your enjoying this hobby. Im always hear to help you if you ever need it. If ya ever sell that tank dont ask me to help move that beast, Ill go on vacation at that exact time, that thing was almost impossible to get up to your second story!! Who in the heck built such a crazy and heavy stand and canopy??????

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.

Okay..couple things...

The plan is to replace the Emperor 400 with another XP3 really soon. At that time, I'll be moving the intakes, spray bars, and heaters and hide them.

I'm kind of waiting for that before finishing the back left.

As for the front right...that whole 2/3 of the right side I've been debating either doing a carpet and nothing else, or a big pretty malasian driftwood like this:

Oh, and it appears the bio wheel thingees in the emperor were already removed.

The water level is a little low, too. Maybe an inch lower than in the first pic. I'm draining water tonight anyway to add some stems.

My two angels. The white one is named Angel and the black one is Damien. The names definitely suit them. The black one is a bully!

I love the black one. He's GORGEOUS. And yes, the painted tetras are total hams. They're in every darn picture!

Quite nice.

Nice to see someone else with a 120g planted. What kind of lighting do you have on this? I ended up with 2 sets of 48in 260wt CF coralife fixtures on mine.

race, yeh. My car is no where near fast... low 16's in the quarter... but she sticks like glue around the turns. I find lateral G's more gratifying.

What do you race?

Pic of heaters lowered, XP3 spray bar and intake moved over. I hope that the back right will eventually fill in and the intake will be more hidden.
It's cloudy from stirring stuff up. Drained about 12 gallons to be able to reach that low in the back.

Heads up, outlaw street style classes. Husband has a promod, and I'm building a drag radial car. Currently running a 6.50 index (1/8 mile) car.

If I can make one suggestion about the driftwood your looking at. It will clash in that tank. You have too much variety already between the rocks you've chosen and the driftwood behind it. Adding the DW from the picture shown is really going to make the tank very busy. Stick with you carpet idea or some low lying plants. Just my $0.02.
