Ok here it goes update

I finally got 10000k bulbs for my metal halide fixture. I do need the hanging thing though because it might crack the bracing on the tank. The color looks cooler than the 6700k. I dont know if they make 10000k bulbs for vho? I only see the actinics one. The plants are growing but really really slow. For now its only running on the tek 4x54 fixture. I have to buy another 10000k bulb for the metal halide. It looks better because the fish fins look more blue , but the fallback is the discus eyes turn black. I dont know why I think its to bright for their eyes or something. The first 2 pics are with metal halides and the rest are with the 6700k bulb. [/IMG]

why did you switch to the 10,000 kelvin bulb?

I would honestly expect your plants to grow slower on a 10k kelvin than a 6500k. seeing as how most aquatic plants get the highest light intake from the red light between 650-680 NM and a 10,000 kelvin bulb is heavy in blues...The red leaved plants should like it though as they reflect the red light most plants use heavily. I would have probably changed my halide from 6500 0r 6700 to 7200 or 7250 if you could find one...just my 2 cents.

Your tank looks amazing. With the rippling effect of a halide, I can only imagine what it must look like in person . Definitely impressive.

Planted tanks are all about shrimp.

Spectral output depends on the bulb. There are plenty of 10KK MH bulbs with high PAR.

I use 10K light on 2 of my 3 tanks. Plants grow wonderfully.

Great tank, BTW.

In college....so no aquariums for a while.....
