75 G The Land of dirt, black diamonds & little fish. (stocking question see post #5)

This is my 75G dirted, planted low tech tank. Its only been up since August and was very unplanned due to my 120G springing a leak and everything had to be moved & rehomed rather quickly.

  • MGOCPM,
  • Black diamond sand.
  • 2 Finnex Ray 2 30" (Kinda over kill they were on the 120G when it sprung a leak)
  • Fluval FX5 filter
  • sponge filter (in case i need to kick start a new tank cycle)
Inhabitants are
  • 30ish Blue neon Tetras
  • 10 Black neon Tetras
  • 4 Corydoras paleatus (Peppered cories)
  • 1 Corydoras arcuatus (Skunk cory)
  • 3 Lohachata Botia Loach (YoYo Loach)
  • 2 Otocinclus Catfish (Otos)
  • 2 Apistogramma cacatuoides (Mated pair)(Double Red Cockatoo Cichlid)
  • 1 Mystery Angelfish (If you know what kind it is PLEASE let me know)
  • MTS, Rams horns & pond snails.
Plants
  • Amazon swords
  • Rubin sword
  • Val
  • Dwarf sag
  • Crypt
  • Anubiuas nana & petite
  • Red & Green Tiger Lotus
  • Plus some others I don't know their names right off the top of my head

Hope you enjoy

Please excuse the crappy phone pictures.

Your tank is cool. I really like all the lotus. Your angel appears to be made from light manipulation. What mean by that is there are certain phenotypes that are only achieved by altering the photoperiod one way or the other, light always on/light always off/somewhere in between. I don't remeber the exact details but there is a site out there all about angelfish genetics and it covered the photoperiod stuff as well. Sorry I don't know off the top or my head but thats where you will find your answer. Good luck

Hello!

What a great tank, also like the lotus a lot.

What grit size is the sand cap, and how thick is the cap layer?

Stocking question 75g well planted with Fluval FX5 Filter.

I currently have
  • 30ish Blue neon Tetras
  • 10 Black neon Tetras
  • 4 Corydoras paleatus (Peppered cories)
  • 1 Corydoras arcuatus (Skunk cory)
  • 3 Lohachata Botia Loach (YoYo Loach)
  • 2 Otocinclus Catfish (Otos)
  • 2 Apistogramma cacatuoides (Mated pair)(Double Red Cockatoo Cichlid)
  • 2 German Blue Rams (Mated pair)
  • 1 juvie Leopard Angelfish (will be removed when it gets bigger)
  • MTS, Rams horns & pond snails.

My Neons have all gotten lazy and just chill 90% of the time so i'm looking for some mid/upper level mini fish that stay busy. I'm thinking some Danios/minnows.

There is zero aggression in the tank.

My questions are.
  • am I overstocked? (fx5 filter, lots of plants & very good water conditions)
  • Would Danios/minnows be a good choice (do they stay active)
  • If so how many would you suggest
  • Mini active fish suggestions (I prefer small & colorful)

Thanks in advance.

I think you are close to being over stocked. not there yet but close enough that a school of danios would over do it.

beautiful tank btw, love the lotus

Phenomenal tank! Love the lotus. Watch out, the amazon swords are going to get huge. I had one crown in a high light, dirted tank and it almost took over. It looked spectacular though lol

Thanks for all the complements everyone. The lotus gets tons of love around here, seems to be TPT favorite.

I was going to suggest some Nannostomus eques just because I think they would be awesome in your tank but they aren't too active and the angelfish might eat them

Those are cool little fish for sure. The Angel will be removed eventually into one of my wifes Angel tanks depending on what sex it is. I'm hoping its a female because she has a awesome male Silver Angel & I think the offspring would be sweet.

I'm wanting some fish that swim around like they've drunk a gallon of Columbian coffee lol.
I hate the fact all mine are so chilled out, lol. Even though I suppose its good for them, no stress. At feeding time its a mad house everybody piles in and its war on Live food day lol.
