Let's see those "ignored" tanks

About 6 months ago my sister told me that she wanted a "water plant" for her apartment. I figured, cool!, this will be easy. So I went to Cost Plus World Market and got a little vase. It was nice, thick and fairly cheap. I had some extra ada aquasoil laying around, threw that in and planted some glosso with a small piece of driftwood. She had an extra desk light in her room, so we stuck in a 13w C.F. bulb and it was off to the races.

She really liked the gift and put it on a table in the living room of her apartment. On occasion I would ask her how it was doing.

She mentioned:

How it’s growing great,
How she forgets to turn on the light for days on end ,
Hasn't bought ferts yet :,
She is constently trimming the plants because they grow to high
Wonders why I keep asking about algae

The only thing she does is add water.

Here's what she sent me this morning. Keep in mind.

No Ferts, Inconsistant (at best) lighting, No Filter, No heater, No Co2, Not even declorinator!

Considering the maintenance, this is a really cool Glosso forest

And Come One! Emersed growth are you kidding me lol. If it flowers I swear to God.....

I guess this is what happens when you fertilize with...Love?
*edit* Notice, the shades aren't even open behind it, it doesn't even get sunlight lol

i guess its growing so high to try and get some light?
guys if you really want to see glosso go extreme, check out amanos 3rd book
he has a setup with mainly riccia and a bit of glosso, and he just leaves it, and you see over 5 different pictures it covers the whole tank! and grows really high, not out of water but still

That's funny. LOL. My ignored tank doesn't look very nice. At least the fish don't seem to mind me feeding them once a week or when i remember to hehehe.

Thanks for all the comps guys, I'll let my sis know to keep up the lack of work. She did tell me she trimmed before the pic lol.

Now come on, pony up with pics someone. I know there have to be "ignored"

Leading off with a tough act to follow, but this isn't a comp. I just want to continue the pain of seeing a great tank that has 0% effort stomping my 110% effort tanks! lol

So bring em on!

Well this was my ten gallon that was left basically unattended, other than feeding fish, for 4-5 months last summer.

No CO2, ferts and 2 x 15 watt flora glo lights, as you can see it was an algae bed.

OK so... I've been ignoring this tank for about a month now in anticipation of a move coming soon. I'll trim one last time this sunday before we move.

Spread the word...

Well, this was before I pulled about half the Java Moss out of this ten gallon for a RAOK :

No ferts, no CO2, the 18 watts of light is turned on in the morning when we come in the computer room probably about 5-6am, and turned off when we go to bed about 9pm, so that's what, about 15-16 hours of light? I do try to remember to feed the fish 3-4 times a week. And even more interesting, and how much I usually ignore this tank, I've got a hinged glass cover under the light hood which usually isn't removed, so when I did take it out so I could pull moss out for the RAOK I found this:

The moss is growing out of the tank and trying to crawl into the Aquaclear! And there's a little patch of HC that has taken hold from some bits that got knocked loose a long time ago (really not enough light in this tank to grow the stuff, the rest of it is long since gone.) There is a bit of algae there, that's the only algae in the tank. I can live with that. I don't see it . Other than that it never gets algae or anything. Very low maintenance. Wish my 55 was like this

Sláinte!
Cindy

Yep. Pretty isn't it? I almost like it better than the submersed stuff. If I ever do a paludarium, I'll make sure to include some.
