SnazzyJoe's first Dry Start

Well I have been lurking here for months, gathering all kinds of information, tons of studying up, and overall admiration for some of the most beautiful tanks I have ever seen. I am not a barebones beginner, but I am by no means even moderately skilled at keeping or raising a planted fish tank. It has been t least six months since my last tank and I have only been on the hobby a couple years. This weekend however I decided to set up my little ten gallon to see how well it can do and, I know with the community here, that I can get whatever help I may need! Now down to the dirty!

Equipment
-Standard ten gallon from petsmart that I removed the top rim from
-MGOCPM that I tried to float and remove the majority of larger wood and mulch from
-Pool filter sand cap
-Fluval aquatic life and plant LED for 5-10 gallon tanks

Flora
-one pot of dwarf baby tears that I tried to spread out as well as I could
-one package of petsmart dwarf hairgrass(just to see if it works haha)

Already run into some trouble with the tank as my moronically curious cats have ended up inside it after only two days of it being set u, but no damage done besides what my temper could handle!

I hope it gets nice haha, I'm glad I'm doing a dry start though, gives me time to buy a filter and heater!

...then time to figure out what I want to stock.......... Not a clue yet

I don't know if you ever ran across this when you were researching but if not check out this little write up about the DSM by Diana Walstad..

http://www.bookmasters.com/marktplc/00388Shrimp.pdf

The first half is about shrimp, the latter half is DSM

I think I've read over that before, and I've read tom barr's DSM stuff too. It's one of the reasons I wanted to give it a shot
