Hardscape:
  • 2 - 20# Bags of Eco-Complete (30# Substrate overall)
  • 1 - 5# Bag of White Aquarium Sand
  • 1 Can of Decorative Rocks from PetSmart
  • 1 Plexiglass Sheet
  • 21" Driftwood (Manzanita)
Fauna:
  • Neon Tetras (17)
  • Bolivian Ram (1)
  • German Blue Ram (3)
  • Electric Blue Ram (1)
  • Bristle Nose Pleco (2) (1Albino)
  • Otocinclus (2)
  • Amano Shrimp (5)
Flora:
  • Dwarf Hair Grass (Elocharis acicularis)
  • Alternethea Rainckii
  • Telanthera Cardinalis (Alternanthera Reineckii 'cardinalis')

The tank was done at first by laying out the substrate, digging a line in the Eco-Cmplete, and then pouring the sand in. I quickly discovered (the next morning) this wouldnt work as all of it started mixing. So I ran to home depot, bought some plexiglass, and siliconed in two curved borders to make a 'river' effect.

How it started:

Planted the Sword, Ludwigia, and Anacharis (Later took out ludwigia because I didn't like it):

Started out trying the fishless cycle, and it didn't go well (I bought ammonia with surfacants and it was damaging the plants), so bought these three. Also added a moss ball, Java Fern and "Bleheri" (Bought at PetCo, pretty sure its just a small sword):

1 Danio died within 12Hrs due to the loss of a face up to his mouth, but the other two never had any trouble:

Mocked up some driftwood, will be getting a piece similar to this but will have it flipped and hanging over the 'river':

DHG didn't turn out so well the first time:

Added/Removed a few plants. Zebra Danios also came out and went to a friends tank with 7 friends:

DHG round 2:

Plants producing bubbles nicely:

And the most recent picture (taken about an hour before this post):

Needs a bit of a cleaning from all the brown diatoms, but trying to leave it alone as I don't wanna freak out the Neons too much since I've done quite enough to it today. The Ribbon Plant is producing little budding plant stems at a crazy rate of like 6" or more a day, a lot of anacharis will soon be removed when the Telanthera Cardinalis grows taller and will add color to the background.

A little picture less update (for now) I didn't like the ruffle plant so I took it out and moved the amazon to the left, and then added an Oscelot Sword in front of that next to the moneywort. I'll get a picture wen the light comes on. My driftwood will be here tomorrow.

Picture added of the tank with the oscelot sword and ruffle plant removed.

Latest update:

Everything has been growing really well, especially the crytocoryne which has pink leaves now and I'm not sure why, anyone know?
I have some Downoi, Blyxa and more Anubius coming in to fill in in front of and under the driftwood.

The diatoms finally wore themselves out, as any plants covered in them has disappeared. But I have GSA on the driftwood which I believe is a side effect of high nitrates blocking phosphates.

Seems I'm talking to myself in here.

Two of my rams have paired off since I received them from matt13 on here (highly recommend) and have colored up amazingly since they're mating! I also have an EBR who looks absolutely amazing also.

(all I have is an iPhone)

They dug themselves a nice hole right in the front of my tank.

And now as of like an hour ago they laid eggs.

I know they'll probably get eaten by the other tank mates, but it's still pretty cool seeing them spawn like that!

The tank has undergone quite a large scaping. I basically don't have any of the original plants left now, and the Denison barbs were removed.

Rams are looking great under the new light!

Front of tank (sand and DHG a little messed up after move)

And down the length of the tank
