My first dirt tank

After MUCH obsessing and a few misfit fish, I have decided to start my first dirt tank. Will be doing a 55 gallon with a 10 gallon bottomless attached to it. I have done neither before so the excitement is intense. This will be a low tech, low light tank.

Fauna:
Plant eating Pleco
Angel fish
Goldfish

As of now all three keep destroying plant or are to aggressive to keep in my 75 communal.

Flora:
Java Fern
Anubis
Java Moss

A couple things I am kind of stuck on is how to support the 10 gallon and what to cap it with. I was thinking of using black plastic pipe, cut in half and notched for the support legs. Then would plant moss or ferns to help hide them. Can I cap with gravel or will it slowly settle to bottom? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Re-purposed and cleaned up end tables today. I also built frame support for the bottomless aspect. Got dirt and sand cap in. Now waiting for filter to clear the water some. Im hoping this will go quick with 4 filters running.
