Lazy noscape 50g... Update 4/3

As some of you already know, I started up my tank this June and finally got the hang of things (got them to grow without much algae ) by mid August, which was documented here: DIY 50.

This is the final shot of the tank before I started taking things down.

So I decided it was time to move on to the next step and try to do some aquascaping. For my first attempt I wanted to do something simple. So, following Birgit Wolfgang's guide, I tried to do the convex setup with the golden ratio.. This was the result (8/24):

I wasn't too happy with it though because it looked too unnatural, so I made another attempt yesterday and got this.

A close up of the center of the tank:

I'm not sure what to do next though or how I can improve it. All comments/suggestions are much appreciated.

yep, last shot is the score. I wouldnt move to far from your final attempt. What kind of lotus is that. I would move that lotus to the middle as well in the foreground and move your driftwood to the left or right and remove the rock from the tank.

Peace,
Ry

I thrust my tridant into the mass of medusa like staghorn. I am wounded but I refuse to take a knee.

The progress is amazing. Last shot is the best. Looks really natural. You may want to build upon it but stay near to this layout, love it!

Ryzilla, the lotus is a red tiger lotus. The lotus is actually in the foreground, but because my tank is so narrow it's hard to tell . The rocks are actually supporting the driftwood.. so it's hard to do unless I can find another way of supporting the dw... any suggestions?

Well.. once school resumed, I found that I didn't have the time to maintain the tank with all the fast growers and it became a mess. So, I've decided to give it a makeover and go with something that's lower maintainence. I wanted to avoid any plants that I would have to cut the top and replant.. so this is the result. Any recommendation/critique/comment is appreciated.

I removed the E. latifolius since it was growing too fast and replaced it with HC, Downoi, and dwarf lobelia.. nothing else is new since I'm trying to make the tank as low maintainence as possible (with trimming especially).

Just a small update. I've rearranged the plants again and upgraded to an Eheim 2217. I've also built a reactor/heater to get more stuff out of the tank (not installed yet though).

50 Gal - Eheim 2217 - 108 watts T5HO - Oil-Dri - Pressurized CO2
