Bridge over the River Kwai

Last week I had a chance to revisit the bridge over the River Kwai in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. Some of you may remember the name from the classic movie. Just want to share some images of the bridge and some native aquatic plants..so hopefully it's not completely off topic

The first one is the view of the bridge. This bridge was built by the Japanese during WWII using American POWs.

The bridge is still in use today, although the surrounding neighborhood is much more developed and lots of tourists visit each year.

Looking out from the middle of the bridge, you can see the river Kwae (mistakenly spelled "Kwai").

Near the shore, there are massive colonies of aquatic plants right at the bottom of the bridge.

a closer look reveals at least 3 species. Some kind of Potamogeton, some kind of Ottelia species, and a saggitaria.

Actually, it was English, Australian, Dutch and American POWs. Nice pictures Petrus. I was fortunate enough to see it about 10 years ago.

ahh..thanks for the correction everyone. So sad to see so many perished during the war. There is a huge (many acres) cemetery nearby for those who died during the construction of this bridge.
