for this fish and i finally got one earlier in the week.

its a heckel discus!! im so excited to have one. i have wanted the wild strains ever since my parents set up their tank around 90 when i saw then on a tetra poster and then i saw the real thing and was messmerized. i wanted to wait on them cause of money issues but i just couldnt walk away from him. i will get more pictures later as he starts to come around more.

I love discus!

Discus are one of the many fish out there that brings my interest. They are the most beautiful fish that I have ever seen, along with many different strains that they carry are an advantage among other species of fish. I would love some for my 50g, but i'm afraid that the height of the tank is too short for their liking.

As far as species goes, i'm also attracted to the wild heckels, Kevin if you are interested in buying discus in the future, Cary Strong has a really nice stock shop and hes not too far away from you either.

I have to agree John, seriously one of a very small handful of freshwater fish that captivate me.

HOpefully I can wait for 10+ more years before I take that plunge. . . . .

You can never go wrong with discus. They do require alot of work but their beauty is well worth it. I have been raising them for around 25 plus years and will never quit them. Currently I have 25 discus. Most of them are in bb tanks but I have four of them in the planted tank. People say they are hard to raise in the planted tank but let me tell you I have had no major problems with it. Knock on wood. There is nothing like 4-6 discus swimming gracefully in the planted tank. It's awsome. Jim

You could fit a few more into your 55, couldn't you?

As much as I'd love to have them, I keep coming back to really wanting to keep a hairgrass lawn, but I don't think I could keep it and the tank clean with such large fish. There'd be too much waste builod up. Oh, and I also really don't want to lose my Rummies as snacks! Maybe I'll just get a shoal of Glass Catfish or something...

yeah i prolley could one more in my 55 but thats no longer a problem since i have a 75 coming soon.

i wouldnt worry about losing your rummynoses to them. i still have all 14 of them and still a school or cardinals, glo lites and toehr smaller fish. the discus could care less about them really. with the 75 though im planning on probably 2 more wilds, ~20 cardinals then calling it quits for the additional fish. but we'll see how that goes. i just need a cool idea for a scape now.
