40 Gallons of Zen

I've recently decided to get back into the hobby. Aquascaping had been a way for me to relax and given me time to be still in my thoughts. In the past, I never really liked aquarium ornaments nor other artificial decor, but I saw this Buddha statue and had to have it. (I will add pics later. For now, you will see placeholders.) You may have seen this one from PetCo.

For this past Christmas, I was given a $200 PetCo gift card to get me started again in the [s]hobby[/s] addiction. So far, I have acquired a 40 gallon breeder ($40), tank stand ($30) (which I haven't decided if I am going to hack or just have a custom stand built), and 80 pounds of Eco-Complete ($72--with shipping).

For the filter, I would like to get an Eheim, but I can't decide on which model. I'm stuck on the filter purchase. I'm also looking at lighting options.

Eheim 2217 if you wanna go the canister route and another 500gph wave maker in the tank for circulation although the spray bar from the 2217 may be enough circulation. As for light, it depends on what plants you want to grow but I run a Finnex LED fixture and it offers phenomenal lighting and great PAR levels for growing a wide variety of plants.

I'm no expert but I agree that a 2217 would work fine in your setup
