My 55 gallon

Hello! I'm setting up a 55 gallon tank. I got the tank and stand from an ad on Craigslist.
It's going to be a community and female betta sorority.
I plan on having:
about 8 female bettas,
neons
glow light tetras
black phantom tetras
zebra danios
some kind of rasbora
julii cories
otos
possibly an angel fish
malaysian trumpet snails
maybe some shrimp

It will be heavily planted and there are so many different types of plants that I'm a little overwhelmed! Not sure what to choose!

Anyway, here is the beginning. I used organic potting soil and I'm in the process of putting down play sand as a cap. I have to wash some more, which probably won't be until this weekend when I can get outside and use the hose.

I'm really excited about this project!!

Here are some pictures. Once I started putting the white sand around the rocks, I realized I liked the way they looked better against the dark soil, so I bought some black sand from Petco and I put that around the rocks.
I bought the rocks at a LFS, and the driftwood at a chain Petstore. I originally planned on having a piece of driftwood that looked more like a long branch, but this piece is actually really cool-looking with the textures and holes and everything. It took me a few minutes to situate the way I like it, but I'm pretty happy with it. I have some plants already so I may just start filling it up today and planting!
I think I will put one of the lily plants in the back right corner and one in the little nook of the driftwood.
I have some dwarf hairgrass that I will put in the foreground on the left side, and I think I will put the pennywort behind the right side of the driftwood. I want something smaller for the foreground on the right side- something creeping with tiny leaves. Also, some kind of moss for the drift wood.
Also, should I boil the driftwood? I don't know if it's possible, though, because I don't have a pot big enough...
Any comments?
