My new baby cichlid tank

I set up this tank on my night stand back in January, and it's been empty ever since. Last week I was at petsmart and they had a sale on their "misc" cichlids that I couldn't pass up. I had cichlids a long time ago but I forgot how smart, fun, and inquisitive these fish are, not to mention beautiful.

I would have liked to have done a rock/sand scape but back in January I was planning on making this a guppy fry tank.

I could really use some help with the tank design as it's kind of an eye soar to me. It's very bland. I would love to get some java moss growing on the driftwood but I'm sure by the time it grows in my fish will be in their new bigger home.

Do you think a lighter sand substrate would make the driftwood "pop" out better? Or would that contrast be too weird?

Here are the fish. I'm having a hard time id-ing them as they are probably mutts. But if anyone knows the species let me know! All four are different lol.

Orange Johanni?
Malawi Pike Cichlid or Chipokae?

I wish this picture wasn't blurry. Has very nice stripes and bluish spot at the gills.
Some type of bumble bee?

And this guy.. the smallest of the bunch about 1cm. He's a whitish yellow with red eyes. Some kind of albino?

Update 3/8/2013

Swapped the substrate for aragonite sand. Also swapped the stock spec light I had for an aqueon light. Has way better colors imo. I like leaving the lid off as well as it's fun to look down from the surface.

I'm really enjoying this tank next to my bed

Next I want to find some neat floating plants.
