Cool 40L Aquarium Journal...

Hello All,

I was recently given a 40 long aquarium for free. I had no Idea what I was going to do with it until I noticed one of my female puffers eating her eggs. That tells me that they need more room so I figured well the time is right.

Here's what I have purchased so far...

Fluval G3 (first canister filter ever)(hope I like it)
Hydor Inline 300w heater
Finnex ray 2 48''
60lbs eco complete
GLA inline co2 diffiser
Some small river stones from Lowes
A nice stump from right here on TPT
Several different plants from users here that I am storing in my 30 gal long.

Sorry no pics yet but I have my kitchen tore apart with tanks everywhere with the new tank in place until I put some bracing under my counter to be sure that it handles the stress of the extra water.

Anything else you guys suggest for me to get for this tank?

My plan is to aquascape it and put my current penguin 350B on this tank to help with the cycle. Any Problems with that? I am not really sure if I am going to keep the Aquariumplants.com substrate that I have in my 30L in this one but I do hate all of the creatures that I have living in there.

OH, Like i said I have puffers, pygmy corys, Rili shrimp and tiger shrimp and different tetras and rasboras. Any advice is appreciated.

Here goes...

My old 30L and the New 40 next to it

Getting some bacteria going in my tank with the old filter pad. Also trying to get my piece of wood water logged so it doesn't float.

My kitchen counter.

Today's handy work,

Took out some of my pants from the 30 and got started with the 40...

40L plant list...
  1. Glosso
  2. HC
  3. blyxa japonica
  4. Red Tiger Lotus
  5. Alternanthera reineckii mini
  6. Vallisneria nana
  7. pogostemon helferi
  8. Assorted crypts
  9. Anubias nana
  10. reg anubias
  11. Ranunculus inundatus
  12. anubias barteri
  13. Brazilian Micro Sword
  14. Crypt parva
  15. Dwarf Sag
  16. Vallisneria reg

There are a few others that I can't remember off the top of my head right now.

This is my first real scape, I am not done I do plan on bringing the rest of my stuff from the 30 over eventually but I want to take my time because I don't want to harm any of my fish and shrimp...

So, What do you think ?

it looks nice. good start.

i, personally, would remove the "pebble path", or the very leased replace the stones with ones ALOT smaller, or even sand. But sand can be a hard to keep seperated from the darker substrate.

but all in all i like it.

good luck

There are 2 types of people on this forum. Those that have algae, and those that lie and say they don't.

Thanks, My hope is that some of my scuds may be able to reproduce in the large rocks and be a constant source of food for my Dp's.

What light are you using?

I'm not into the image, but into the hobby...
