hir0's 20g long. (56k warning)

This is my first planted tank and I've done some progress shots of my tank to see how it evolves. please feel free to comment or give me pointers on how to improve it.
tank specs:
-20g long
-pressurized co2 w/wph controller
-65w pc lighting (10 hour lighting period)
-greg watson ferts (modified EI regime)
-ph 6.7 / kh 5 / temp 80F
-florabase over a thin layer of silica sand (I was too lazy to remove the sand)
-Eheim 2232 w/DIY co2 reactor
-inhabitants, cherry reds, CRS', neons, a few otos and a couple guppies.
here's day 1 / Nov 27 '05
pretty much just stuck some plants in the substrate to see if they would grow.

Dec 1 '05
planted some HC and some other plants

Dec 25 '05
yanked the plants from the right side of the tank to have a more open look. added some dwarf hairgrass

Jan 16 '06
HC is filling in, plants are happy - and the algae has stopped harrassing me. added some tenellus? not sure what that is on the far back right side. I also tipped over the driftwood on the left side. Cut the net from my brine shrimp scoop net and put it over the filter intake, since i have a couple CRS carrying.

Jan 19 '06
cut that big amania to try and create a sloped look, or triangle. HC growth has been a little uneven since I accidently let my siphon wash a bunch of water back into the tank at the end of a waterchange. The rate it's been growing, it should fill in pretty quick.

Wow, I can't believe the sense of depth you are able to achieve with those dimensions! Terrific job.

I love that HC! It makes that tank seem much larger than a 20 gallon long. Now I'm going to have to redo mine.

From an aquascaping standpoint, thats a amazing job for a 20 gallon long. Most aquascapes on 20 gallon longs turn out looking short, by which I mean they really look like the 12 inches tall they are. Yours seems to create the effect of a taller tank that is just really long, which is really good. The only thing that I think could use a tiny bit of work is the areas of shadow on the left. The top left corner area seems a little cluttered, but thats probably just me. I can't believe that tank is only a couple months old. From the first picture to the last, I would have guessed that it was at least a year difference.

Great tank!

hi Thanks for all the comments. I think i need a longer intake tube so that white netting isn't so 'in ur face'. Yes, the tank needs some work for sure. I'm not exactly certain what I want to do with it right now. It seems to change on a weekly basis - but I'm just happy the plants are growing hehe.

Steven, sure but I'm going to cali in March for a week or so hehe so hopefully you can catch me.

here's a closer look of the left and right sides from a few days ago. Still patiently waiting for the hairgrass to fill in some more.

I love those guppies also! How did you apply your background if I may ask?

Very nice tank and photos. What do you do as far as post-processing on the photos?

it's just one of those black cardboard sheets found at any walmart. the kind that's a couple mm in thickness. I wish it were a little darker but o well. I cut it a hair larger than the exposed glass, so the frame of the aquarium holds it in place.

thanks. Post processing is basically crop / resize / slight USM because of the downsize.

This is a really beautiful tank and has a lot of depth. I also have a 20 long and this gives me a lot of inspiration.
Oh this might sound like a stupid question. What kind of plants are in the background?
