113 by Killerbee (Plant Newbee)

This is my first post here on this forum. I have looked at many different plant forums and i have decided i really would like to be a part of your community here.

Anyways, I am a plant newbee and i might have a few questions along the way and i hope you all will help me along the way and in time maybe i can help some of you.

My tank is a 72x18x20 (LxWxH), 2 Emp 400 filters, Pro clear aquatics 75 wet/dry with a overflow, 2 250watt ebo jager heaters, 260 watt odyssea PC lights (2- 67K and 2- 10K lights)and my 700 gph return pump. My tank is very clear except that my tank was previously owned by someone who did not take care of it much.

Enough talking, pics:

Yes, those were my old fish i found out would not get along with my plants so i sold them (piranhas)

Here's a pic after i put eco complete in my tank (i have 40lbs of it, 60lbs of carib sea black sand, and about 60lbs of black gravel.).

Here it is after a couple of hours

I messup somewhere in posting and her's some that were supposed to go in there as well:

Here it is after clean up and i only started with 2 plants to test the compatibilty of plants and p's.

It was ok for a while so i added some jungle vals and found out they don't really mix in my tank anyway.

Sold the p's and here's 22 Giant danios acclimating to their new home v.s. the 20 gallon they used to be at petsmart. Can you say happy Also, the beginning of my aquascape:

I hope you plan on keeping the danios! They're a heck of a PITA to catch and take out. Last time I used them to cycle a tank, it took half an hour to catch 3. I almost broke the tank down again just to finish it! LOL...

I like the shots of your tank very much. Are pirhanas legal in Austin? They're not here in the Bay, so I've never seen them full grown. How big were yours?

Thanks, I want at least 6 and at most 9 different types of plants. I kind of don't want a high maintenance tank and as far as co2 goes, i just don't want to deal with it IF i don't need to. I'm thinking about adding some different tetras but i don't know how they will fare with my danios (mean little sob's

Thanks, trust me i know, but i love the liveliness the danios bring to my tank. P's are not legal here in Tx but you know how that goes I had them since they were 2" and grew them to 8" inches in a year and 2 months.

Thanks, and will do. keep an eye out weekly for updates.

Nice tank.

Can anyone tell me what that tall green plant is? It sort of looks like a Brazilian sword, which (if I'm not mistaken) is not a true aquatic plant and will die if left submerged for more than a few months. Am I wrong?

Nice to see someone excited about valsineria runners . It's been a while since I was a fan.

Nice start Killerbee. My experience tells me that most, if not all, the plants in your tank will do fine without CO2. That little redish plant looks like crypt wendtii, or some similar variety.

Those were some healthy chompers you had. I hope they found a nice home.

Thanks, Glad you brought this up cause a matter of fact i'm having issues with this plant the whole leaf is turning brown and the stems are getting "rubbery". I will post pics at another time to show you all and maybe we can resolve this issue together. Or maybe its this plant you are talking about and if that is the case then its comming out.

Thanks...You bet, i'm very excited and i actually wanted all your expertise. I have runners everywhere and i wanted to cut them and plant the new babies i just don't know how. Do i just cut the runners (in the middle and plant again)??

Edit: btw my little killers are in good hands, i would not have sold them to someone that did not give them the care i gave them
