kyo's first planted tank

hello folks!

just wanted to share this newbie's 55gallon at 3 weeks. it's definitely a long ways off from being called "aquascaped" but at this point i just want to learn how to keep the plants healthy and do my best to fight algal growth ...

Nice, the tank is yet still young but will look a lot better once everything fills in. What are the specs of this tank?

I will do aquascapes after I collect all the plant species and grow them to perfection.

anubias (frazeri?), microsword, dwarf saggitaria
- fishes: angelfish, zebra and leopard danios, flying fox, ottos,
chinese algae eaters
- 4x65w Coralife CF
- lights on: 7:30am-12:30pm, ["siesta"], 3:30pm-8:30pm (*)

About turning off the lights in the middle of the day... I have only heard of people doing that when they either had a ton of light and were worried about the plants, or had certain crypts which can melt in very high lights. I leave the lights on in my tanks for about 12 hours and 12 hours of them off.

Notes:
Been having hair algae invasion. Placed the tank in blackout for 3 days. I've inserted Phos-Zorb in the canister filter and doing manual removal during weekly (20%) water change.
