Jump into planted tank

I, extremely newbie, have setup a small ~7g tank with some unknown plants (LFS in malaysia do suck =( ..) I know the tank look pretty crappy, so all big experienced brothers/sisters please give comments and criticism. If possible, please help to identify them too =P

The plant on the left bottom picture - I believe that's not a true aquatic plant and will die in about 12 months, if not sooner.

digital_ric, instead of complaining and saying "LFS in Malaysia suck" after purchasing, it would help if you did your research prior to buying your plants/fish.

Malaysia does have some reputable plant shops one being What The Fish. They're helpful and very knowledgable if you bothered to look. If you know what you're looking for than you won't end up buying plants that are unsuited to your tank. For example, what I think is sword plant (top pic, left) will soon take over your tank because they get huge. Second, the light you are using is insufficient to grow even low light plants. What are your water params?

Bottom line: Do your research - here, Google, Rex Grigg's Guide, etc prior to buying any plants or fish.

CruiseControl, i admit it is my mistake that i didn't do enough research =P Think i have got too excited and 'splurge' unnecessarily. Actually planned to start out as a normal fish tank, then only lately got in touch with plants. Maybe you can recommend me a few shops coz i can't seem to find much info on shops in Selangor. Beside, I am new here in the state =(

Er.. water params.. never measure those coz those kits are expensive =p I only know water temperature is 29C (newly bought thermometer)

Welcome to the forum! I would like to point out that for a first tank, everything looks great. Keep the focus on plants and experiment until you find what works for you. (learn by trial and error) If we all did it right the first time there would be no point to a forum.

Moved to Tucson.

I'd say more like 12 weeks will be the life expectancy a non-true aquatic plant will go for inside water.
Sorry sarah, I'm not trying to nit -pick (I know you said 'if not sooner' )
I've had some true aquatic plants that died in less time ( due to the many mistakes I made mostly).

digital_ric, sorry for the late reply. You can check out some local LFS here and here.

Hope this helps. Good luck. Keep us posted.
